Hi Gents :)
Off to Lyon on the 24th for a few days, then on to Montpelier by train for a few more days, flying into Lyon then back from Montpelier, really looking forward to getting away for a bit :)
Anyone know much about cigar shops/smoking in those cities? Anyone have any experience with the Francia REs that may still be available, for example I'll be keeping an eye out for the Punch Small Club being very much a fan of the petit robusto format lately, and there's a RA torpedo of some sort that was also 2009, or 2008 I think as well. Comments on quality and availability of the REs very much appreciated :41:
If you have any other general info such as things not to miss, places to (or not to!) eat, that'd be cool too!
Cheers all in advance
Martin

Hi Zig. I found some of the RA belicosos in Nice a few weeks ago. An amazing RE IMO so well worth hunting down. The Punch petit robusto is excellent too. The Bolivar Libertadore was quite disappointing especially at E17 a stick. Ive had a couple and both were a bit meh....
Happy hunting

Also, the ERdM petit piramide is rather nice. I've only had one but it was lovely

Great information gents, very accurate as always Smallclub :) no numbers thank you, I'll just have to subtly plan our walks around as many of those shops as possible.. "blimey another cigar store, they're everywhere over here!!" ;)
Nice to hear the REs are going strong, shame about the boli and don't really do ERdM but gonna try as many as I can find :D the RA in particular could be brilliant, all of the RA REs I've tried have been so far! (and the LCDH RA for that matter!)
Cheers for the info, I'm sure there'll be pics if I find anything good.

I've found plenty of all the French REs here in Bordeaux (except the Juan Lopez Obus ) :
both Bolivars, PunchPR, RA Belicosos and ERdM petit piramides....
Hopefully you'll be lucky too :)

Just wanted to say thanks again for the info smallclub, and stevieboy, I've found the ra belicosos and boli Petit libertador (you say you tried the libertador, but the petit?) But only in singles, what are the chances of me finding the ra in boxes do you think, either here or montpellier or even duty free at montpellier airport?

Hi Zig. I couldn't find the RA in boxes at all and settled for 10xsingles instead. Keep yer eyes peeled for the ERdM petit piramides...lovely stick which has the makings of a future classic
If you see the sticks you're after in a regular shop, grab them there in case the airport doesn't have them. In recent years, I've never found REs at airports and only once found a box of LEs. Of course, it all depends on the airport :)

boli Petit libertador (you say you tried the libertador, but the petit?) Completely different cigars! The Petit Lib. is a strong little bugger, very peppery, and of course without the complexity (and the underlying sweetness) of the Libertador.
Good, but not as interesting as the other french REs (ERDM, RA, Punch), at least for my taste…

Good, but not as interesting as the other french REs (ERDM, RA, Punch), at least for my taste…Gotta say I agree with you mate, just had the petit lib outside the hotel, I think it's far and away the strongest smoke I've ever had! Compparing it to a young rass or bbf for example it has to be at least twice as sstrong, but like you say not complex and not even that strong a flavour, very woody and peppery but not a lot else, one hell of a kick tho! Might grab a couple for when I fancy a wake up call! RA tomorrow I think :)
I was fortunate to try the ERDM Re a couple of days a go courtesy of steevieboy. What a smoke. grab a box if you can. You wont be disapointed!

As said somewhere else by me.... The bolis are strong blighters, Really strong, the punch were a bit dissapointing, and I'm looking forward to trying the RAs soon!
Thanks for all the help, turned out that far and away the best store was the funny little La Royale store in Montpellier, newsagent type place really but with extensive humidor space along the back wall, it also had all of the REs above in stock!

Yummy, definitely a couple of nice additions to the collection! Are you going to keep a couple for a little while and see how the develop?
Also, did the other half end up catching on to the fact that every 10 minutes you happened to just wander by yet another cigar store haha?

Well could be tricky, four of each, one of each pre-booked by another BOTL on here, one of each going into a hamper for xmas for my brother, leaves two of each for me, one to try soon and one to keep for a while... Though I did have a boli over there bought seperately so can give two of them a bit of time, which is lucky as that first one blew my head off!

Just had a thorough read of this thread. I'm in Morzine, snowboarding all week. Limited options unfortunately to get into Geneva other than at a fairly hefty cost.
Looks to be a reasonable Tabac in town, I'll check tomorrow if they stock any Cubans...
Sounds like I need to seek out the ERdM RE!

Not really mate, taxes have gone up there like most places in europe far as I can tell, still cheaper than the uk, those REs I got averaged about a tenner I think?!
