I've just seen this on the web.

Pinar Del Rio 1878 Reserva Dominicana Capa Habana Toro Cigar

Has anyone ever seen a NC with more Cuban References in the name?

Longest name I have seen for a cigar. Seems a tad unnecessary.

Why not just call it the 'this cigar tastes like paper so we're giving it a stupid name so that somehow, some day, someone might buy one because the name is intreeging'

It takes two bands to handle that whopper of a name! http://smileys.emoticonsonly.com/emoticons/l/laugh-1061.gif

Wouldn`t be so bad if they were a decent smoke ,but from my experience there is a lot of hype with some of the NC cigars and not a lot of taste.

If NC's are credible why do so many still reference Cuba?

Boys, don't get me wrong there's a whole load of rubbish NC's out there, but many are worthy smokes. More than a handful are brillant smokes.

It's easy to poke fun at the Cuban references but many of the families who produce the cigars come from Cuba, dream of Cuba and are proud of their Cuban heritage. They learned their cigar trade in Cuba and want to reflect that in their branding. Obviously it also helps sell a few cigars too! Now you already know all this and its no excuse for the branding of this particular cigar!! Completely OTT

maybe but then real ale has a few 'out there names' such as bishops finger,SkullSplitter, sheep shaggers gold etc and some of them are pretty good.

id hate to be judging a book by its cover.

Hasn't there always been a trend for real ale to have daft names? Does anyone think a name such as The Mutant Black Iguana will sell a cigar?

im not trying to be difficult but when it comes to NC it is a very over populated market, and just like songs today that endlessly sample classics it must be hard to choose some thing original?
who do you know that buys a smoke on the name alone (proberly the same people that will only wear branded clothing).
:der:
im not saying that they will be any good but their marketing has at least got them noticed:welcome: in an already overcroweded market, allowing fellow BOTL to make their own mind up?

Haha Gorilla Fingers!

Those are some great names, but in a way, it kind of detracts from me actually taking a proper look at the cigar to see if its something I would be interested in. Im almost dismissing it instantly due to its terrible name...which is the wrong thing to do. Everything should get a chance. I might see if I can hunt out one or two of the daftest named cigars and give them a whirl!

Not that im expecting much...haha.

It's all very well saying "NCs are in such a crowded market that they need to find a way to stand out" but from my point of view I'd be totally put off by a stupid name and band. It could be the best NC in the world but I'd never know. I think that's where they are shooting themselves in the foot. I'd never buy a cigar based solely on clever branding but I'd certainly choose not to buy a cigar based on terrible branding.

Lol,
i do think that the names are abit silly but i think the reason we dont get it is that they are not aimed at us.
Lots of these cigars are ment to target a generation of cigar smokers that go around drinking cans of monster, drive cars that look nothing like they did when they left the factory and wear clothing that is emblazened with big logos.
Some people have the (wrong) opinion that cigars are for rich, stuck up people that think they are better than others and tobe honest the traditinal names (which i love btw) do nothing to dispel this stero type.
By making the names (dare i say it) 'abit more street' it allows young, less confident smokers to carry on doing something they love until they have the balls to say i dont care what other people think!
which will hopefully ensure that this fine hobby of ours continues generation to generation and doesnt just die out, which lets not forget lots of people would like to see.
Just my thoughts......

Dan
