Montecristo Sublimes. Ring gauge 54,164 mm in the length.
Appearance; dark, almost Maduro shade wrapper. Not the usual Colorado-claro finish you would normally associate or expect with MC.
<O:p
Construction; this was first class, beautiful presentation and construction with slightly oily wrapper.
<O:p
Taste; still has hints of the normal MC tangy spiciness, but the two year ageing process has made the depth of flavour more intense and the general strength of taste is stronger than I anticipated and stronger than any other MC I have previously tried.
<O:p
Summary; this is most definitely an after dinner smoke due to the size and strength of the cigar. Took an enjoyable hour and 45 minutes to smoke, but outstanding draw throughout, and burns evenly right till the last minute. With the exception of the MC ?A? and the Especial I have tried all of the MC range including some of the previous Limited Edition releases, this has to be the best MC I have smoked. Would recommend without hesitation.
<O:p
Score; I would rate this as a 9/10.<O:p

Really enjoyable smoke and the first time i have smoked a 54 RG, as i usually prefer Robusto or Corona Gorda sizes. Will probably save the rest of them for high days and holidays, but at least i now know what to expect.

TJ, unortunately i have never even seen a box of these.I know that they followed the Partagas 898 box configuration and were supplied only in boxes of ten.
Habanos released Upmann EL 50 in 2005 and i think most collectors opted for those when avavilable.
Sorry my puros smoking buddy but i am afraid i have never had the pleasure of smoking one,and i think it would be difficult to source a box now.

Thanks anway, mate. After a fellow BOTL from the great land to the North gave me one a few years back, I immediatly box a few boxes and have cherrished them since.
:nerd: I just though it would be interestiing to get your take on this exquisite puro. Actually, I'm finishing off the last inch of one as I post. :41:

No problem at all TJ. I am hoping to get a box of the MC "C" from 2003 to add to my collection, as i know that some retailers still have a few boxes left in stock.
But i don`t think i will be smoking them soon.

Yeah...I've noticed that there are a few MCC 03 still around. Wonder what that means??? Have you tried one?

Saw these in Selfridges the other day when I was in there picking up a few other smokes. After this review - and being a Monte fan - think this is my next stop!

A JL No.1 this afternoon when the sun finally broke through.
Had the evening to myself with the missus on a company night out and our little one tucked up with Iggle Piggle by 7pm. August's Trout and Salmon, a couple of bottles of San Miguel and a Monte Sublime...off I go...

A very pretty cigar, sits very well in the hand, liking the embossed MC crest on the band, havent noticed this before. Perfect draw after the cut, just enough resistance for a big cigar. Spicyness from the first few draws, dark wrapper helping with this. Full on tabacco flavours, difficult to pick out anything subtle in the first inch or so...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/philMbrown/IMG_3402640x480.jpg
No real flavour development in the first half, was looking for it but it just stuck with the good quality, aged tabacco notes.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/philMbrown/IMG_3403640x480.jpg
Into the second half and some menthol tones coming through and a little hint of sweet nougat at times. These flavours died away as the cigar picked up strength fast, cazadores strength in the last couple of inches.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/philMbrown/IMG_3404640x480.jpg
Bands off and tongue beginning to take a beating. Strong, strong, strong, should have poured a wee malt to go with the last few puffs.
A very enjoyable cigar, better than last time but still feel like I missed something in the middle. Has gone up in my estimations, will revisit the box next year to see how they are coming along. Sticking with the Monte C's for now:biggrin1:

Great review mate...
Sounds/looks like you getting a taste for these babies now...
Like you say, give 'em a rest for a while and then watch 'em go...
