Hi all

Just back from a fortnight in the Cayo's. The weather was a little disappointing but we knew it could be unpredictable at this time of year.

On this trip I was planning to further my cigar smoking education by trying cigars that I have read about on here but not had the opportunity to smoke.

My list for the holiday went as follows:

Cuaba Distinguido - Fantastic

Montecristo No.4 - Suffered through poor keeping I think

Partagas Mille Fleur - Superb

Cohiba Siglio II - Surprisingly easy draw, maybe this had become a bit dried out

Belinda Coronas Tubos - Surprising for a cheap cigar

Sancho Panza Belicosos - Brilliant, smoky and full of aroma. a 2 hour smoke!

La Flor de Cano Coronas - Disappointing, but could have been how it was kept

Partagas Series D No.3 Tubos - Brilliant

Punch Manuel Lopez - Fell apart, literally

Bolivar No.2 Tubos - Good but expensive by comparison to others I smoked.

Trinidad Fundadores - A waste of money, the most expensive I bought and the worst I smoked.

Punch Punch - A great cigar

My comments relate to taste, whether I had to relight them (and in some cases how many times I had to relight them) and the aroma.

I think some of them could have been better looked after in the store but there were some fantastic smokes.

I did make notes about each cigar but I wouldn't call them tasting notes – they will help me in future.

The only one I wanted to try but didn't was one from the Jose Piedra range, for some reason the shop wouldn't sell singles and a pack of 5 worked out quite expensive (this is by comparison – they aren't really expensive).

I will take pics of what I bought and post them in the "New in the Humidor" thread over the weekend.

12 days of classics.
And I am suitably envious of your trip.
I too am surprised about the Fundadores. Strange?
I wonder why you got a bad one?

Surprised at the Fundadore too. I've never even had an average Trini never mind a crap one. They're always flawless. Was it bought in a reliable store mate?

Great review - I can only begin to imagine what Cuba's like...

Partagas Mille Fleur - Superb

Now this is a stick I'm really interested in buying a box of... Party Shorts are a favourite, so I think the Mille Fleur is a natural progression.

Can't wait to see your pics.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.. the cuaba distinguido is one of m all time fans.

I am also surprised at the trini.... possibly worth another try.

Thanks for the comments guys.

This was my second trip to Cuba and whilst it didn't wow me as much as my first one I still enjoyed it.

We didn't get to Havana this time which was a shame.

I bought all of these from the hotel store which seemed OK. They had a lot of Montecristo, Cohiba and Romeo and Julietta but they did have a lot of others too.

The ladies in the hotel store got a bit fed up of accompanying me into the cigar room when I went to choose my smoke for the day but they wouldn't let me go in on my own. They did insist on trying to get me to buy Romeo and Julietta cigars but for me the trip was about finding new smokes.

I think that the Trini may have been there a while and it was stored on a high shelf which may have had something to do with it. I would try it again though. The cigars that were stored on lower shelves did seem to smoke better.

Not all the hotels are as anal with their humi as the one you stayed in. I didn't find that attitude in any of the 5 stores I went into. Sounds like you had a lot of fun trying all those new ones

Poohbore I had a ball.

It was lovely just to have the time to kick back have a beer and really enjoy the cigars.

They do smoke better in a warmer temperature.
