Hi all I'm from Chepstow and stumbled across the forum whilst looking for advice on what to buy. I took up cigar smoking whilst on holiday in Cuba a year ago but I've since realised how expensive it is here !

My dilema is that I've just got a 300 stick humidor but not a lot in it.

My parents are off to Havana at the end of the week and i need to give them a shopping list.

My choices so far are

Partagas Series D No. 4
Partagas 898 Varnished
Montecristo Sublime.

Do you have any others to add to the shopping list thats worth trying.

I'm off to Cuba later this year so I'd like to stock up on whats good then.

Hi Poohbore

Welcome to the forum

:welcome:

You certainly picked the right place to come, there's more than enough experience here to top up your list, looks like you've got off to a good start with it already! :biggrin1:
Although I'm sure there's one or two people here that would want you to add a Cohiba or two to it.

Welcome to the forum :welcome:

That's a good choice you've made so far. As for what to recommend, there's just so many it's hard to pick any particular cigars. Here's a couple to get you started though, Punch Royal Selection No.11 and Cohiba Siglo IV.

I'm sure there will be plenty of other suggestions made, really it would be easier to make a list out of what not to buy, than what's worth buying.

As a rough guide, have a look here http://www.cigars-review.org/ just be aware that a lot of the cigars listed are no longer available, or easy to come by.

Hi Poo and welcome,
Ditto the above. Cohibas will be particularly good value over there, in addition to what your thinking already.
Enjoy your time on the forum mate.:41:

Welcome, PB, and enjoy.
Yup. I'd say Cohiba to add, like the Hawg up there.

Hi pooh,
the Ramon Allones Specially Selected, Cuaba Distinguidos. Monte No2, Diplomaticos No2 are all great in my opinion. Really enjoyed the Bolivar Gold Medal lately too.

Pooh Bore,
I think there has been some excellent suggestions from the rest of the members, the only thing i might suggest would be something from the Hoyo de Monterrey range, such as the Epicure No1 or Epicure No 2.These are a pleasant cigar which can be smoked by most people as they are not too strong.
The Epicure No 1 is a Corona Gorda and the No2 is a robusto, both of these vitolas are going to give you a good smoking experience without being overpowering.

PS.Remember and get your parents to purchase from an authorised Habanos retailer while on holiday.

Awrite mate,

Be carefull when u get them from cuba, sounds daft, but I hear theres alot of fakes floating around and aimed at the tourist market who wouldnt know the difference...

Everyones got there own tastes...The partagas No 4 is a great choice, i'd personally add a Romeo and Julieta Churchill and the Trinidad Robusto Extra, both great smokes, with medium flavour.

THanks for the advice guys. The PSD4's are only ?4 each in cuba so 2/3rd's of the money will go on those. All but 1 of the Cohiba that i have tried i struggled to get them to draw nicely. The exception being the maduro 5 secretos. I've also got an introduction from the Friends of habanos forum on a contact at a factory in havana so they will give that a go.
