Thought it was about time someone wrote something about the recent introduction of some new montes, as these are what are being sampled at the Hunters and Frankau Summer Party (see here (http://www.ukcigarforums.com/showthread.php?t=1188)).

The new Montecristo 'Open' range includes:

Belicoso Regatta, 46 by 5 1/3 inches,
Robusto Master, 50 by 4 7/8 inches,
Super Robusto Eagle, 54 by 5 7/8 inches.

Cigar Tower seems to have the most details, and plenty more pics:

Interesting to read the way the blenders have tried to appeal to a particular market: outdoorsy types, using specific leaves. Nice find Deano. The bit about smoking off at the Libre took me back to the honeymoon. We spent a night there: 50's opulance in the huge lobby. I can just imagine firing one up in there:41:

Beautiful looking sticks, senor Deano. :nerd:

They were mentioned in the lastest CA magazine (June 2009) by James Suckling in his article on the IX Festival Habano, held in February 2009. He described them as "bland" and one cigar merchant is quoted as saying, "Who is going to smoke this light cigar, my teenage son?" :playball:

:mad2: But what the hell do they know??? We here at the UKCF like to make up our own minds. So hopefully, one of the members will give it a go and post a review soon.:41:

:bandit: After all, I'm TJ, TJCoro Dang It? and I like to form my own opinions on fine Habana puros!

They do look nice and the bands are good as well but who would want to smoke a mild version of a Monte? It would be like smoking a Silk Cut cigarette - frustrating as you'd be able to taste Monte but not enough of it :-(

Guess the proof will be in the pudding Stevie, but yeah I know what you're saying. Be interesting to see what Deano, or any of the other lads, think of them.

Deano'll probably buy a dozen or so and share them out with us for feedback, he he.

Not sure what to make of these to be honest.I am sure they will be a nicely constructed cigar , which will probably be great to smoke, what i don`t understand is who they are aimed at?

Most people could enjoy a MC without any problems in relation to them being too strong, so why opt for this line?

I guess it's to broaden the range Mr. Whisk and have a facelift for the brand: according to CA, it's been seventy-four years since Monte had a new line out:eek: If VW had the same approach, they'd still be punting

You could be right CJ, maybe they just fancied something different after all this time.

Dont you think they have an American look to them, with the bands and the names, and the Colorado wrapper?:cowboyic9:

You could be onto something there mate, re the American market. Maybe they know something about the embargo that Obama doesn't...and are looking to compete:smile:

Can't believe that's a cigar advert...looks more like an aftershave ad :( who the heck are they marketing this smoke to? I know cigars are luxury items but to sell them like make-up....urrgghhh. wouldn't look out of place in John Lewis or Harrods perfume dept

I have this sort of problem reading CA magazine as it seems to be packed with overly-aspirational tosh along the lines of "now that you own your first yacht, where does one go next" and adverts for watch-winders, electric tie racks etc - makes it quite unbearable for me

All polished up for the twots isn't it.

I don't subscribe personally as I'm relatively new to all this and that for this and that's matter:biggrin1:

W&nk mags for the rich in that respect, I guess.

There's a rather spiffy mag called the ECCJ - European Cigar Cult Journal (http://www.cigar-cult.at/englisch/1x.htm). The articles are in German/English and costs about ?17 per year. I subscribed for years but let my sub lapse - mebbe time to re-visit!?!

It shows you what CA know, what about the Edmundo and Petit Edmundo?

Whoops, I meant the Cigar Tower article that Deano linked., sorry Ramon, have a looksee. There's an arguable point about the 'branding'/no new sticks, I guess.

Don`t agree at all with the ridiculous comment about the electronic tie rack;i purchased one for 46 quid about six years ago from Harrods, and it has never let me down once.

I usually keep it on my boat!
