Smoked a Cohiba Robusto for the first time on route to work last night.
Wow.
Since I started smoking cigars there has only been two cigars that have really jumped out at me so far.

The Rocky patel sun grown and my first proper cuban to date the Cohiba Robusto.

Thanks for the cigar Mark.

I think the Cohiba Robusto is my very favourite smoke, followed by the Partagas D4.

I adore Cohiba Robustos.

I wasn't terribly impressed with Cohiba as a whole when I first started smoking a few years ago, preferring the milder RyJ, HdM etc but eventually Cohiba has risen into my top 3 brands. Saying that, I'm still not in love with the robusto although it's been a good year or two since I had one....I have one sitting in my single's drawer so it might be time to fire it up :smoke:

Its this one mate,

http://www.beaconsfieldwinecellars.com/

They have a humi and a reasonable selection. I was there to see a client and as I had no more smokes I thought I go in and get a stick. several sticks and ?50 lighter I found a lovely tea shop and sat down for some scones and clotted cream and a diplomatico!! It was a nice way to pass an hour or two.

Sounds like a nice afternoon. Class.

We need to get Deano to give us the facility to add recommended retailers details on the map.

I had a single that I fired up a week or so ago and, dare I say it...it didn't really get me going. It was in a 5ct Robusto selection, I'll have to check to see if there was any indication of date on the box. Mind you, the D4, Monte and HdM Epi2 smoked well. I guess with a single, you only get one chance eh. Donations of a 10/25 ct box will be greatly appreciated (purely for research you understand)

I wonder if how long you leave them in humi after delivary has anything to do with how it smokes and tastes.
I say this because when I bought the cuesta rey last month I sparked one up the very next day and it tasted shite, I didn't smoke another one for about a week and every cuesta rey since, just seems to taste better and better.

Storage, pre delivery, will be a consideration Mick. If they've been humi stored well, they'll smoke ok pretty quickly. If they are a little dried out, a nice rest in your box will bring them back up to scratch.Hence your observations mate.:41:

I've noticed some cigars I've bought, both from the shop and internet sellers, that some of the harder cigars have softened in the humi after a few days. I thought that anything sold would be in perfect condition. Obviously I'm a very naive newbie.

I expect, depending on the size of some of these import/export outfits, it would be very difficult to keep every single/box or cab in perfect storage conditions. Even a large walk in has high/low/moist/dry areas. Then there's the time it takes to ship stuff around the world in containers. Are they humidified? Probably not would be my guestimate.:biggrin1:

I found this out the hard way. Always let them sit at least 2 weeks. 3 months is better though. :849:

reviving an old thread - but with a different angle ..

what makes this Robusto so darn expensive? is it because of popularity? I've got a couple of 'em resting in my humidor and would like to get a couple more, but the price always make me buy something else I know I'll enjoy .. I smoked three so far, and they were quite good, but I can't, for the life of me, think of anything that makes them worth that much more (other than they are hyped and popular ..)?

- or is it just me? :)

That's what I want to know. Someone please explain what the big deal is.

Not had one yet; always buy the lanceros over the coro since the price is similar.

I have had some great and some so so Cohiba Robustos but anyway the Trini T is the way to go for premium robusto ...anyone had anything but a great smoke off on of those?

Trini T is certainly a supreme smoke, and while I still think that the Cohiba Robusto is overpriced; when you do smoke a good one then they are very difficult to beat IMO.
