Thanks for the warm welcome guys...what do I like to smoke? well it changes month by month, I'm in a bit of a time warp as I age everything, and it depends on the amount of time i have spare - so from the shortest time span up - I'm currently on:

Later this summer I hope to build my walk-in Humidor! (so next year then...lol) I have found a room 7ft x 15ft in the middle of the house (LGFL) with no door! :eek: I hope there's nothing in it?
It's Going to be half wine cellar and half humidor ;)
But the humi side might get bigger......for long term storage.
They might stop making them....:D:D:D:D:D:D

I don't think anyone here has a walk in Humidor (I stand to be corrected) although we used to have a contributor from Mexico who thought the whole world was a walk in Humidor! :rock::rock::rock: (You know who you are, I see you skulkin but not postin):eviltongue::eviltongue:

Look forward to seeing the pictures of it when it's done. Do you have a local builder who has done this sort of thing before?

Watching Martin Clunes Island prog on the IOM last night & I guess you all have walk in humidors over there like we all have an out side privvy.

How long's it going to take to season it and get the humidity stable?

We will be learning as we go along....lol, not that bad as I have a building company and we are easily the best on the island, we only work on our own buildings and are maybe two years behind....:tea: too much of it!!... It will be a simple job for us, we are all mostly carpenters (Worked on Winsor castle after the fire! so we have a bit of an idea!) getting the correct materials is No.1 - 8x4 sheets of spanish cedar are not easy to find, seasoning is not a problem because of the RH, worst case its a very large coolador...lol. To be honest I have so much work to do on the rest of the house, it could be a while till i get to it, but i'm going to photograph it as I go along and keep the forum posted, I spent many years rushing around london like a fool, on the Isle of man things are much much slower, I'm away in vegas for 3/4 weeks soon and I'll be siting in the sun watching the bike's smoking fine puro's at the TT when I get Back :smoke: All the Job's will still be there next year!!!!...............:fish2:

Wow, fantastic project. If you get to London you should pop into the new Alfred Dunhill at Bourdon house. The newest walk in Humidor in London and also lots of tips from Howard about getting it right (he has been doing it on and off for abour 30 years!!)

Good idea Nic, You can never do too much research, I've been to jjfox and Davidoff a few time's but none of the others, may try and get to your next london Herf, i like the look of that conran place on one of the other posts. Most of the shops i've been to tend to have air tight rooms and use a couple of big electric humidifiers, but I'm not sure how that can reduce humidity if too high unless the machine is also a dehumidifier! fully lined with cedar including shelving would have more of a buffer perhaps, and I'm only storing boxes (mostly cedar slb's etc) because I'll keep all me other humi's. Heat and air exchange is easy - peak summer is only 18/19 and it is on a stone floor so it will not even get that high.
Funny thing is if I made a hole and through the boxes in - it would be 12/14 and 65% before I start, but would not look that good (it's very damp on the island) I'm also more or less on the beach (Windy and salty air) so I may have to filter the air as salty is not too good, so I've read, it will be an interesting project and I need more wine storage also, will keep the forum posted on any developments.....:smoke:

You should certainly go to see Howard, he supervised the specification of the building of the Humidor and has been through the settling down process.

Me may walk on May 23rd for a herf but will certainly be doing it on June 6th.

Weather hear is crap Robusto I'm stuck here all winter because I brought too much when property was cheap, soon as I've consolidated I'm away for the winters for sure, some of my buddies are in the south of france for winters from 3 years ago and I'm stuck hear in the rain for 8 months:( It's windy every day...... but there's no crime everybody speaks english!! :smile: and are friendly - there's no speed limit :biggrin1: (motorbike collection) :biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1: summer hear is the best place in the world, there's only one traffic warden and she come's up on Thursday's, there's a few drunk's here but there harmless, they have stopped work permit's so it's closed at the minute, also keeps every body speaking english, but if you have a required skill set there's always room, london is dooooooomed.

I left 8 years ago and I now realize how bad it is.

Forgot to mention there's no corporation tax and income tax is 10% and 18% max liability 100K...

No worries mate, I have relatives who are teachers!! I know how you feel, every job is fustrating now days, especially when your trying to do a good job, hell I'm the worst, about 9 years ago I slipped a disc in me back, never had anything done about it - in constant pain, don't worry me now, used to it, however if I could go back 20 years and have nothing I'd jump at it, in fact I'd be happy with a big minus.....lol - one of other things I've always wanted to do is play a musical instrument, love music - all type's, next time I'm visiting relative's (Beckingham) I'm coming to see your band for sure :biggrin1: I knew you where joking about the gay's, I just couldn't think of anything funny to reply..... The Beckingham I was referring to is north Kent Not far from Croydon, that's the biggest town near it, used to be a village but now its more like a suburb of london also next door to Bromley which is interesting as a lot of bands came from Bromley. especially in the eighties... Kate Bush, David Bowie, ABC, Adam Ant etc. not that I knew then, having said that a lot of soul artist used to sing in the pub's (big trendy type pubs/wine bars) before they where famous at least 4 black female soul artist's - they used to give out 12" single's, still got them somewhere!........strange maybe there was a good recording studio nearby?
