I started this project a while ago and it occurs to me that with a whole load of newbies arriving, you guys all having been on holidays and trips and TJ comuning with the great Cigar deity, there may be some new suggestions and also some of you might enjoy the old er stuff so I will bring this thread back to the head of the queue and we will try to also find that great Rome store for our travelling chooom.
Gentlemen, I know you like a project and I have a new one in mind, both for the Forum but also for something else I am working on at the moment.
I want to find the great Cigar Stores of the World city by city and document them so that when you are planning a trip there is one central point for you to go to for information.
So far we have had contributions on the forum for Teddington (Thanks Roboooooooosto) & Birmingham (CJ)
But what about:
Paris
Rome
New York
Boston
Sydney
Basingstoke
Cheedle
Dundee
Stockholm
If you have any contributions please post them here and I will pull the details out into a consolidated information thread or sticky in a standard format.

Hi Nic,
Here are a couple of ideas, although some of them aren't areas you asked for.
The Cigar Tower in Budapest is cool and the staff are great. The prices are fixed by the government in Hungary and aren't great. It's also supposed to be the most eastern cigar shop in Europe according to the staff. Don't really know how impressive that is as a claim. The food in Hungary is very chewy!
.
Bogart's in Sydney was quite good but its a while since I was there. I think the prices weren't far off what they are here. There are a lot of Australians in Sydney which put me off!
As for NY. I used to like the Velvet Cigar Lounge. Not too posh and usually had some good fun clients in as opposed to the suits further uptown. Staff were great too. Again its a little while since I was in NY though. The guy i worked for was a member of the Grand Havana rooms which he said he loved.
Hopefully next wednesday, if I'm having a brave day, I'll be popping into the Casa Del Habano in Muscat in Oman to see if I can get hold of a handful of the local Regional Editions. If I do i'll let you know what it's like!

I know what you mean about Australians, or is it the flies?

As I said over yonder, Mike from Leaf & Ale is a fantastic guy who puts customer service first. He is also a fantastic BOTL. If anyone is looking for a good source for Non Cubans, Mike is the man. I have ordered from him many many times. His website doesnt have everything he carries, which is a shame. But he carries a very very good selection.

The smell in that Humidor was unbelievable and the service was excellent.

That Roman store looks awful, but I like it:biggrin1: (a la Dick Emery)
Nic, my little foray was up in York by the way, and I'm planning to visit a lil' store in Belgium over the next few days. Weather permitting: if it's windy, I'll be on the beach in France. If not, I'll be in Belgium sniffing some phat ones out:41:

Was in Brussels last year for the F1 and there is a good Davidoff shop near the city centre and about five minutes from one of the main underground stations.Pricey shop, but a good selection.

I've been in that one with Giga a few years ago and staff were a bit haughty with us so we just left. I was fairly new to cigars at the time and felt a bit let-down by the experience. We found a magic shop nearby ..the name escapes me but I'll check and post when I get to a computer

Casa Fuente at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace is a great place, very good selection of Cuban rums, the Mojito's are very good too, good selection of the upper end NC's - Opus X etc (although I smoke me own puro's when there) you can then visit ceasars shop which sell pre-embargo cubans! - didn't see the pre-embargo's last time at ceasars, will check em out and take a few snaps end of june

There's a decent cigar shop in Dunkerque, cj.
I used to take the cheap Eurostar crossings from Folkestone before it all went normally priced. And the Ramsgate-Dunkerque boats. It cost something like ?20 for a late afternoon depart and a midnight retour.
Can't remember the name of it, but it was easier to use it than to go to London. I saved by going to France!
When I was in NY a few years ago I tried out a couple of different cigars lounges. Firstly Nat Sherman's, which was a ledgendary shop and lounge was beautiful, a great shop down stairs and a lovely lounge upstairs were you could sit inside the humidor and chat with people. Nat Sherman has now moved his store across the street on 5th Avenue, it's now bigger but apparently the lounge is members only which is a bit crap!
Also visited one of the Davidoff stores which was great as well as JR Cigars, just up from Nat Shermans on 5th Avenue. JR Cigars is not a lounge as such but it was great standing around the store chating with New Yorkers. Also JR Cigars claims to be the biggest cigar store in the world and why would I doubt that because it's f**king huge, over two floors.
Anyway, will be in Vegas/Hawaii in September and New York again just before christmas and will no doubt be checking out a couple of different ones which I can report on if your project isn't finished by then.

Nic - would it be possible to have a Googlemap of all the places to go...recommended by us lot of course . At least one of us would have physically visited the store. Is it possible to add reviews as well? Bit of a newbie when it comes to Googlemaps.....

Budapest is not the most eastern city ineurope to have a cuban cigar shop, there is 2 in Belgrade in Republic of Serbia which is even more easterly:
● Julieta, Đure Jak?ića 11; Tel: 263 76 90. Open 09:00-23:30, Closed
Sunday. Cuban cigars, whiskey, dark chocolate, fine wines and champagne.
● La Casa del Habano, Kneginje Zorke 2; Tel: 3830-533. Open 10:00-24:00,
Sunday 13:00-23:00. The place to enjoy Cuban cigars. Classy decor and
one of 10 largest walk in humidors in Europe with a comprehensive range
of finest cigars and whiskey.
I will be going there in the summer so will let you lot know what its like. And the food is not chewy but I wouldn't recommend it for a vegiterian!:41:

The SIX shop is in De Panne, Belgium, about twenty minutes over the French border (which doesn't seem to exist anyhow).

You could try the Decent Cigar Shop at the top of Grafton Street in Dublin. Good staff and some cigars are a lot cheaper than the UK. Also, if you're lucky, you might get locked in for a wee smoke!
By the way, this is my first post. Hi folks!

been to that shop on grafton street, very nice place and staff as said
whats the one at the bottom of grafton street like, on the corner? Remember seeing a shop with a huge selection of pipes and a cigar shop next door
Hi Celcis, welcome.
Decent Cigar has a good selection, staff are nice and free cuban espresso while browsing.
Walk down Grafton Street, past the Molly Malone statue and you get to Peterson's. Mostly pipes but they have a small walk-in with Cubans and non. A bit of digging here, you might find some aged stuff.
Two doors down from there is JJ Foxes. Very nice shop, good selection and lots of aged stuff with a little digging around again. plenty of older Els etc. still on the shelves. My favourite shop in Dublin.
We used to have a LCDH here but it closed because it was crap.
So that's the three cigar shops in Dublin, all within 150 yards of each other.

About ten blocks from the Liberty Bell is Holt's Cigars in Philadelphia. The shop is divided into three sections: the accessories boutique up front (also some nice fountain pens); the huge humidor in the middle; and the lounge in the back. The lounge is small, but it's comfortable when it isn't crowded. The staff is professional and always a pleasure. Holt's has been in business since 1898. They have a second location in the suburbs, but I haven't been to that one.
If you want food, drink, and a bigger lounge than Holt's has, you can go right next door to Mahogany (http://phillycigarbar.com/), an upscale cigar lounge.
I've been to JR Cigars in North Carolina, and it is huge. The building itself and much of the inside looked like a discount club warehouse, but I was definitely in cigar country when I went into the humidor.
Nat Sherman's is on my list of places to go next time I'm in Manhattan.

Great work Lou, thanks. I have Nat's on my list too. I used to go to Manhattan once a year for a big exhibition and always had a day or two lay over before it started but that was before I really got into cigars. Now I don't go...
Anyone else been to Nat Shermans?

Few snaps here (sorry for the poor quality) of Casa Fuente, which is in Caesars Palace Forum shops, Las Vegas.
http://www.ukcigarforums.com/picture.php?albumid=82&pictureid=799
Great selection of Fuente cigars, including Ashton and Diamond Crown etc. Great drinks and lovely waitresses, recommended if your in Vegas, you can smoke your own also and have a coffee listening to the Cuban music, I had a nice Ashton VSG here with a Mojito. :smoke:
Here's some snaps of the bar and Humidor.

They also have a good range of lighters etc...
This was my favourite place to smoke with a drink after dinner, you can smoke in the main gaming area of the casino, but the constant noise of slots is not very relaxing, the Palazzo had a lounge bar with live music which was also good. :smoke:
