Once on a ferry coming back from France, when smoking was still allowed on-board, there was a woman who was smoking a pipe all the way from Calais to Dover. I swear she drew a crowd of scores of folk who just stared at her in some state of disbelief. I must admit, my eyes were zoomed in on her as she puffed away completely unphased by the attention.

I feel like Alan Partridge as I write this, but I do like a certain type of classy lady with a good cigar.

It took me YEARS to build up courage to smoke in public. I was embarrassed and didn't want to get caught. (I was in my 30's, ffs!). I reckon I'm a shy boy.

Sometimes when I smoke a cigar I get men who think it's acceptable to come up and stare at me, often whilst drooling and making sexual comments. It's why I like to smoke at the nicer venues such as Hotel du Vin, and one of the benefits of the smoking ban is that I no longer have to deal with such behaviour.
