View Full Version : UK CIGAR FORUMS MEGA HERF 1 YEAR CELEBRATIONS
Deano

Ok so here it is.
It's been a year, and it's time to sort out a mega herf, with as many people as possible.
I don't know how many people will want to come, so I need a list here. Then we can get a detailed picture of what kind of venue's etc we need.
We'll see if we can get some decent planning done and come up with something big.
Basically, I think it's only feasible if it's London based. It's central-ish, many members from around that area, and we have many venues and cigar-related venues possible.
I'm hoping for an all-day event hopefully with a Nicwing Cuban Cigar Walk tie-in (if you so wish to do it, if there's enough members who've already done it then we can plan for a seperate event elsewhere at the same time), then an eve-time event with dinner etc planned.
First preliminary date: Saturday 19th September 2009. This should give plenty ample time to organise something in advance.
This really is preliminary at the moment, details can only be added once I get some idea of numbers.

In my typical way I would love to come, but won't be able to say till late in the day. At the moment I may be playing in London that night so could possibly make an afternoon/daytime appearance. If I'm not working I'd love to be there.

Sounds a good idea, i hear the Lanesborough has a smoking lounge, wonder if they'd knock up a bit of pub grub for us? :41:.Good shout - I've been wanting to give the Lanesborough's smoking area a shutfy for a while now. I believe the 'Garden Room' (http://www.lanesborough.com/#culinary_experience/garden_room) was only refurbished about a year ago.

Hi Deano, I would like to come but need to line it up with other plans - when you have a firm date, I may be able to book around it, as soon as the date and agenda are confirmed post it up please.
If there are a few people booking flight's and hotels it would be useful to know whats happening on the day as soon as poss, thanks, ACMCC

I would be interested in this and that date sounds good.
I will need a firm date and an idea of cost before I can make a firm commitment but as a preliminary count me in.

He he, just checked the date and it looks good. I was worried that it would coincide with the one day against the diggers at "Head Quarters" but that is the week before so no problem.
In terms of a venue while both the Lainsborough and Boisdale are great venues there are likely to be issues with both I am afraid.
The Lainsborough is extremely small very up market and expensive and finaly because it's so small they tend to reserve tables for guests who stay there because of the lounge, also likley to be not keen on you"smoking your own"
Boisdale is great but to guarantee a table you will need to book to eat and that too can run into some serious money.
I have told Deano I will work with him on finding a great venue for us to smoke.
I will certainly do a cigar walk that day for those who haven't done it and put the cigar stores on alert.
One suggestion may also be to do the second part of the walk (from JJ Fox to the Cabinet War rooms) and then have a tour around the war rooms which is really great if you have never been, then herf after.
Anyway, I am in and will work with Deano to make it a really great day.
Pip pip.

Deano,
You have opened a subject that needs some real thought me thinks...:41:
Have you any thoughts or should we start a poll on the dates and venue??
I am willing to help out, so don't think you have to sort everything out on your own bud..:biggrin1:

I suggest a pub to start with a decent beer garden , for example the Windsor Castle in notting Hill has a massive beer garden with covered areas so good if the weather is dodgy, downside if your over 6ft tall gettig to the bar is a bugger...

It all depends. I'll get deposits off people who interested, then we'll know who's really coming, and then me Nic etc can look at possible venue spots.

Steve
I had a brief chat with Deano last night and we are looking for a suitable location for a herf but it is not easy.
I think it is safe to say there will be something on that day, just not sure what yet.
I can confirm that we will be running the Cigar Walk on that day and going all the way to the Churchill Museum where there may well be a special guided tour i I get enough takers.
Sorry I can't be more specific.
Deano, anything to add?
Deano
05-08-2009, 04:19 PM
Going to give it some thorough looking over, over the next couple of days, as I have some time free, but we may have to limit numbers and get some serious deposits up front.
