View Full Version : New here.. Only 1 needed but right one?? Please
Hi All<o></o>
This may seem a bit extreme but I want 1 or 3 cigars at most, it’s to celebrate something that’s hopefully coming off in two weeks to do with my son getting a football contract. I don’t smoke anything and have only ever had about 10 cigars in my 43 years. I like sitting in front of my chimney after a BBQ drinking good whisky, and thought I would like to compliment it all off with a Cuban cigar. Why Cuban well I don’t know really, only that I have herd they are the Rolls-Royce of cigars but I am sure you guys will put me straight on that. I want one that hopefully you professionals would think I would enjoy, I have a sweet tooth if that’s any help in directing me to buy the right one. Also where would be the best place to get it from, or would I be better off going to a tobacconists and just buying the biggest one there? Anyway thanks for reading my story and Thanks in advance for your kind reply<o></o>

First of all, Congratulations. I hope the contract works out well for your son.
I would first visit the Cigar Reviews section and read up on some of the tasting notes for certain cigars. That might point you in the right direction as far as finding something you might enjoy.
Also, consider how much money you want to spend on these cigars. Some can be very expensive, but typically they are worth the money to someone who enjoys the taste of cigars.
Post back with more thoughts and questions about specific smokes and we can all help you out from there. :cowboyic9:

Hi Bill - I think for a special occasion you can't go far wrong with a Romeo and Juliet tubed churchill (£55 for 3). Not too strong for an inexperienced smoker, ostentacious enough to create a stir at the party plus with it being tubed, you won't need to worry about storage conditions.
There are plenty of UK cigar shops . Click here (http://www.cgarsltd.co.uk/cubancigars.php) for one of my faves. Direct link (http://www.cgarsltd.co.uk/romeo-julieta-churchills-tubed-p-362.html)
Happy smoking

Not being silly but get yourself some swisher sweet cigars. They're like the hamlet of the sweet cigar world. I have to admit to smoking many, and quite like them on a nice day with the old man.

Hi Bill, Congrats to you and your son - quite an achievement for him...
I'll give you my top 5 go to celebratory cigars, and IMO if you go far any of these you wont be dissapointed...
1. Cohiba Siglo VI (tubed) - Corona Gorda, Medium/Full flavour, approx £76 for 3
2. Romeo y Julieta (tubed) - Churchill, Medium flavour, approx £55 for 3
3. H.Upmann Sir Winston (single) - Churchill - Light/Medium flavour, approx £60 for 3
4. Ramon Allones Gigantes (single) - Double Corona - Full flavour, approx £57 for 3
5. Cohiba Esplendido (single) - Churchill - Medium/Full flavour, approx £87 for 3
Like Larry and Stevieboy said it may pay you to try and have a read up first to try and determine which cigar you would fancy. Have a look on www.cigars-review.org/ (http://www.cigars-review.org/) as there are all the writes up you will ever need on cigars.
Hope this has been of some help to you?
All the best to you and your son and I hope he has a long a prosperous playing career.
Cheers, HabanoSy
 O yeah he’s only done it, I am really made up. What an achievement, bring on the Chiminy BBQ Whisky and a Special Cigar that I am yet to buy, If there is any one of you top guys out there would like to help me celebrate my good news of my lad becoming a pro footballer, that would like to part with one of thier special cigars for a reasonable price, (not that I would know how much they are) I would be most appreciated of it. Wippee isn’t good news great.

Congratulations to your son! Definitely a good opportunity for a celebration and cigar!
Further to the excellent suggestions to get hold of some Romeo y Julieta Churchills, might I suggest RyJ's Prince of Wales - also a churchill size cigar, so still has the wow/celebratory factor, but a slightler milder and sweeter flavour than the straight Churchill. They can be a bit tricky to get hold of though as they have been recently discontinued. That said, the straight RyJ Churchill's a great smoke.
HabanoSy's recommendations seem very sound. Other options include El Rey del Mundo's Taino or Gran Corona cigars, or possibly the Fonseca No1 (slightly smaller) - all three of which are delightful, mild smokes which are greatly undervalued.
Unfortunately, I haven't got enough of anything big enough for celebrating with. :biggrin1:

That's great news for you and your son. I'd be happy to send you a RyJ Short Churchill to celebrate with, though it may take a week or so to get there. I'll need an address. :cowboyic9:

Hi Bill and congrats on the news, personally I agree with Steevie boy and think u should go for the Romeo and Julieta Churchill in a tube.
Its a medium smoke, so wont be offensive on the unexperienced pallet. It also looks the part coming in a nice tube and the size is perfect for celebrations.
Don't mean to sound patronising and apologies if it comes out that way. Once you get your cigars just cut off about 1cm max from the cap(use a razor blade if you dont have a cutter).
I have seen many a cigar being butchered especially at New Years where the non smokers hack off about an inch of good smoke with a kitchen knife.

You don't owe me anything. It's my gift to you. You need to post a bunch more before you can PM your address to me, so why not try and post it on my wall for now.
Thanks Kdot, that’s good advice for me.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Bill, click on his name (above his post) and then select 'View Profile' from the drop-down menu. On the first page of his profile you should see a box that you can write in, that will leave a message on his wall.
:cowboyic9:
Hi Simon Thanks, I tried that but it does not give me a box to write in.
