{Flashback 15 Months} 'Cool shape,' I thought, 'neat idea, I'd look pretty fockin cool with that thing in my mouth.'
'These new NUBS could really take off, make people think you know. The slickness of the branding's a little OTT, but we're all suckers for flashy copy and a shiny new website. No use railing against it, I must have one.'
{FF. Today was that day} The smell at cold was pleasant and generic- reassuringly meaty, but it drew like a straw.
It transpired quickly that my initial optimism about the size, and its benefical effects on my image was catastrophically misplaced: I looked like a dick.
'No matter,' I thought, 'This is da FUTUR, bring on da FLAVA.'
In general, it's pretty standard cheap NC wrapped in an irritating package. The wrapper was thick and burnt badly, the draw was far too loose.
Flavourwise it was less rich than NCs can be, and the lack of change was conspicuous. It tasted, overwhelmingly, of cigar. Only mildly unpleasant in itself, but gives the icky, guilty feeling of burning money.
The NUB is a cigar that toys with a new democratic semiology (it is no wonder that the Oliva name is nowhere to be seen). But it fails for three reasons:
1.) Its taste disengages the senses.
2.) The shameless vapidity of its ethos and existence is impossible to avoid.
3.) Rappers look stupid enough already, they know, and they know we know: this is a step too far.
