Hoyo De Monterrey 2007 EL Regalos. Ring gauge 46,137mm in the length.

Appearance; Very appealing Colorado Maduro shade wrapper. Not the usual Colorado-Claro finish you would normally associate or expect with the rest of the Hoyo range.
<O:p
Construction; once again, this was first class, beautiful presentation and construction with a very slightly oily wrapper.Even before these cigars are lit they have a fantastic aroma of cedar wood and spice, and they actually reminded me of the R&J EL Escudos from the same year.
<O:p
Taste; there are still the usual rich woody spiciness tastes as displayed in the likes of the Epicures and Double Corona, but the two year ageing process has intensified and amplified the depth of flavour in this cigar, and the general smoothnes of the taste is superior to any Hoyo I have previously smoked.
Prior to smoking one of these I had anticipated they would be a fine smoke; hovever the Regalos have gone beyond my expectations and are more refined and aromatic than any other Hoyo I have previously tried.
<O:p
Summary; Took an enjoyable hour and 30 minutes to smoke, with outstanding draw throughout and burnt evenly right till the last.
Having smoked more Hoyos than any other brand, I thought i new what to expect from the range but this is a really nice quality cigar, and the initial aroma from the cigar had me salivating even before it was lit.
Would recommend without hesitation to either a beginner or seasoned smoker.
<O:p
Score; I would rate this as a 9/10.<O:p

Great Review :hail:
Making me drool reading it
Only ever bought some singles of these, as at the time Cuba seemed to be churning out to many El's and Re's to keep up with, and I must admit I felt most of them were becoming all to similar in profile, cant remember how I scored it, if I did :hmmmm: but after reading this, sure would like to try another :cowboyic9:

Just like SS I could feel the juices starting to flow...!!!

I've not had the Regalos yet, but this is now a definite MUST try some time very soon.

:nerd:Very nice review, senor :cheers:whisky. This puro has long been a favorite of mine and :flybye:flying under aficionados' radar, as ELs go, for some time -sort of a sleeper stogie - until now, senor :typing:wordsmith!.

:bandit: Names TJ, TJCoro, and it's a good thing I stocked up on these babies before you posted your review! :sheep::sheep::sheep::41:

Hey Craig,

Great write up mate. I bought one (one!..prat) of these back from the motherland in January and now I know how it smoked a while back!:smoke:

Already planning to purchase another box CJ, just in case they prove hard to purchase in a few months time, although there are a few retailers still carrying them.

I sparked one up tonight solely based on the above posts. One of my favorite morning puros, but I still can't quite distinguish the subtle nuances as senor Wisk. Wish my palate was more sensitive.

:bandit: Names TJ, TJCoro, and I know a fine puro when I smoke it.

Maybe the fact that I have abstained from smoking for the last month makes the palate more receptive TJ, I honestly don`t know.

What I do know is that it`s a hell of a good smoke.:smoke:

You may be right about obstaining whisky77. But that would equate to "cold turkey" for me. I smoke at least one puro a day durng the week and up to four a day on weekends and holidays.

:eek:What the hell would I do instead...bang me birds :nono:

Oooops! Sorry gentlemen! That was the old TJ talking. He's so old school and sighned off the hizzy last night. The new TJ would never say something so crass and off-topic.:tsk:

:nerd: Hello! My name is TJ, TJCoro, and I'm all grown up now. :41:

Whiskey, do you mind me asking how much the box cost you?

I've only smoke one of these babies, a single I bought from a cigar shop here in Belfast and loved it, I'm beginning to prefer a 44/46 ring guage rather than the usual robusto size of 50.

Anyway the reason I ask about the price is because when I was in Barcelona in March a cigar shop was doing a box of these or the R&J 2007 RE for 100 Euro each, a good price I thought and probably a little cheaper than here, unfortunately I'm an idiot and didn't pull the trigger on a box then, think I will shortly tho!

Damn!!! That is F****N cheap - 100 Euros for a box, sounds to good to be true...!?!

The only thing with Spain though is even the registered retailers let the odd FAKE box slip through...

Gotta have your wits about you, HabanoSy

Well that is true about the odd fake box doing the rounds in Spain, but then again the same could be true about any country, plus I'd be surprised if this shop had any fake boxes, it was called Gimeno right on La Ramblas, it has one of the best walk in humidors I've ever been in underneath the shop which you have to be invited down to, packed floor to ceiling with every cuban.

I opted for a box of 10 Spain RE Vegas Robaina (as in my avatar), wish I'd bought a box of each now or at least knew of someone heading off to Barcelona :biggrin1:, ah well will just have to treat myself to some good non cubans when away on my hols later this year.

Gary, I paid more than twice that for them if I remember rightly.I also have the R&J Escudos and they were more expensive than the Regalos again, so it sounds like an unbelievable deal you passed up on mate.

I have never seen them anywhere even near that price Gary to be honest, and if I did then I would be looking at purchasing a couple of boxes for myself.

I will be purchasing another box of Regalos for the humi next week and will be looking at $280 to $320 for the box.

Ah! Gimenos, (he says, leaning back in his chair and going all starry eyed) I was there in June on a stag weekend, I also bought a 10 box of the RE Vegas Maestros, I also bought the RE Ramon Allones and a bundle of Piedras - to cheap to pass up on.

I didn't see the LE's though, but I was like a kid in a candy store, couldn't take it all in quick enough and didn't know what to look at/pick up next!!!

Like you I am kicking myself that I didn't pick up more, and I think your right I can't see a place like that selling fakes...

Cheers, HabanoSy
