View Full Version : The UKCF Wiki is live!

A much asked for feature is finally working.
Out new Wiki, which will act as a basis for all our cigar related information and as our cigar Wikipedia/Encyclopedia is now live here:
http://www.ukcigarforums.com/ukcfwiki
(It's also available a a link on the top Navbar as 'Wiki')
Hopefully I'll update it over the next week with some a guide on what, and where, to post your information.
It logs you in as if you were on the UKCF forums automatically. Which is nice.
I hope this brings a useful knowledge base to the forums, where pro and amateur BOTLs alike can post their know-how and years of experience.
Enjoy :41:

Deano, will the new toys never end??
Does this mean I can now spend the remaining 2 waking hours I don't spend on the forum on updating my Wiki (what ever that is?)
Wonderful,

Basically I'm reducing your real-life time by as much as possible!
Anyway, hopefully over the years we can produce a reasonable repository of cigar information - factual but with personal feedback and comments too.

Facts and figures about cigars, brands, history etc; plus a review of each cigar on its page based around the CA system? (Around these parts I've done a CA based review for the ERdM Petit Corona and Fonseca KDT Cadet. They'd look quite snazy... even if I do say so myself... :eviltongue:  :biggrin1: :849:).

Whilst having my hot flush over how brilliant the wiki could be, with the wealth of knowledge that I've already been priveledged to witness over the last few weeks, I forgot to say how brilliant it could be... :biggrin1:
Really nice idea, and could well be something that draws in the crowds. :thumb:

With N's ring guage and Deano's suppository, I'm not sure where all this is going, but the Wiki is a great idea:p Tops marks:hail:

I've started to fill in the size information for Cuban cigars, and their respective logos.
Hopefully get bands etc up too at some point.

It's actually way easier than I expected to edit and add pages. Easier than posting on here even.

I looked at it last night and was quite baffled. Didn't understand what to do. I'll drop in when you boys have made a head start. Deano - You seemed to be adding cigar sizes and statistics, according to the strings?...
There's a lot of useful stuff buried in previous threads. Can that be cut and pasted into the Wiki?
Not the sleaze. The facts.

I've had a wee fiddle with cutters and construction but I'm struggling to embed any images!?! Can anyone help?
Deano
29-07-2009, 10:12 AM
Anything u want can go in. But yeh its fact based, so we'll keep it straight-laced, and the rest goes on the forum.
I'll try to write/video a simple tutorial, but it does take time to get to learn (though it's very simple).
The good thing is, once learnt, you can use on pretty much any Wiki. Your work Wiki, Wikipedia, your own Wiki etc etc. It's a very useful tool to have under your belt.
Maybe if we herf I could bring a lappy and show you the ropes.

I'm still a bit baffled.
Who is this for?
Us? The world?
I know what a Wiki is from a musician's point of view. I've seen local people big themselves up as stars and write ridiculously inflated resumes of their work on Wiki, so I hold Wikipedia at arm's length a bit.
This is not meant to be a dig at anyone, but aren't you just importing knowledge and existing facts and putting them in a new space?
Please - Carry on! But it must be very time-consuming!
I want you to know that I love you all and am not being a biatch.
I just don't quite get it. :smoke:
But then I do write complete shit on here and not cigar facts, you know... :biggrin1:
I can't help with this!
Deano
31-07-2009, 06:09 PM
Yeh it's not for everyone, but there's no 100% decent cigar wiki out there, and we could collectively make one. It's also a good repo for stuff like world cigar stores, humi advice etc, where we can point newbies. I think you'll see it come together and find it useful.

aren't you just importing knowledge and existing facts and putting them in a new space? :confused:I suppose so... sort of. On the pages I've made a start on I've tried to get information from different places and put it all in the same place - so you don't have to try five or six sites before you get all the information.

Bry - I've created a page that has loads of Cigar web-shops (http://www.ukcigarforums.com/ukcfwiki/index.php/World_Cigar_Websites)in the one place....I kind of did it for myself as well as everyone else because I've over 50 links to shops in my 'favourites' on Firefox

Right. I take that back.
It's useful if it's gathered in one place like that. :biggrin1:
May I share?
My wife is just back from a cup of tea with a colleague whose husband lit up a roll-up. My missus said she didn't mind the guy smoking because "my husband" likes a cigar.
The man then heard we are off to Cuba and said if I slip you a few quid, can you bring me a box back.
My answer to my wife?
"Fuck that!".
Just needed to tell someone...
