OUt Saturday, powerkiting and buggying. Great day for the wind, although a bit strong here and there.
Set up about 11am with a 4sq metre kite (Flexifoil Blade) and the wind picked up. I thought, mmm maybe not this size kite. One of the lads jokingly said "you might as well have a go with it, now it's out of the bag"
So I did:der:
Set off on a run and really felt the acceleration kick in about three hundred metres away...started to think about 'scrubbing' some speed off and whoosh, a gust of wind caught me, whipped me out of the buggy about ten feet into the air and unceremoniously dumped me down, just as quick. Landed squarely (as opposed to anything like a collar bone et al, thank F) on my right foot and I tumbled like a bag of the proverbial. Buggy continued into hedge!
Poorly ankle all day, but the Brashers kept it in check. Not clever though and went to A and E the next morning: nothing broken, but a bad sprain:mad:
I've now got someone else's foot, possibly John Merricks...:smoke:

That looks bloody painful, cj.
How about a lovely foot spa?
Rita Sullivan endorses them in codgers' mags.

I hope that nasty bruise calms down for you, mate.

:smoke:Very fitting Bryan as my foot looks also looks like an old codger's too.
Skyhigh: When he asks mate:smile:
When I fetched my buggy back, the speedo had the last recorded reading at 31.3mph. It was a personal best inland :) Not bad when your bum's four inches off the floor, but way off the 77mph world record (nutters): O

I need to have a go at this sport....77mph 4inch of the ground..:cowboyic9:

That looks very colourful CJ.
77 miles an hour, 4 inches off the ground and I'm interested
77 miles an hour and 10 feet off the ground without the aid of a safety net and i'm off mate.
My advice is Arnica, it's what the kids take to reduce bruises, it really works too. Looking at your leg I think you need one about the size of a dustbin lid.
Glad to hear it's nothing really serious, hell you could have landed on your smoking arm.
But I think on balance my weekend sitting in a field with 20,000 really nice people, about 50 yards from a tanker full of Wadworths 6X while varous singers paraded in front of my slumbering frame beats being picked up and dumped from a very great height!
Get well soon.
Nice carpet by the way.

Good lord cj! That looks horrible. As nic says, at least the cigar arm appears to be un-injured.
High speeds, kites, near to the ground. Sounds awesome - until you get unceremoniously dumped that is...
I badly sprained one of my ankles a few years ago (when a rather portly prop decided to fall on it, and then lie on it, during a rugby match). I couldn't put any weight on it at all. A couple of weeks of chiropractic on the foot and lower leg (and ankle, obviously) and it has come back a strong as ever (not immediately though).

Thanks for your thoughts chaps.
Nic, I know, it could have been far worse like you say. That would have been awful: one pursuit leading to the loss of both! The doctor, on seeing my wife heavily pregnant asked if I was going to keep the hobby up, I sheapishly replied "yes, but not as often"
Arnica sounds the real deal

Them portly props and their lack of unaided balance eh Simon:smile:
That's all those pack people, not right in the upstairs. I remember a small hooker (no jibes) climbing up me like a piece of gym apparatus when I used to play as a youth. Had to brush him off like a bug, the git.
I'm looking into the arnica tomorrow.
I'll post further pictures of my swelling if you ask nicely:rolleyes::p

I didn't know Arnica was also called Mountain Tobacco, how appropriate.

Great connection there N, well spotted. I like the sneezewort version too, sounds a bit worzely.

As well as chiropractic, I also recommend alcohol, lots of it.
I broke my wrist once (again, playing rugby), however, as we were on tour, we were quite sozzled before we even got to the ground. So I carried on (for another 60 minutes - I even had one of my best games ever). The alcohol had numbed the pain. I couldn't go to the hospital afterwards - again, on tour, no quitting (plus the opposition were sponsored by an, ahem, 'exotic dancing' club - couldn't miss that now, could I). Mind you, the next morning was horrific... one of the world's worst hang-overs, and the most painful broken wrist I can imagine. Eventually got back to Gloucester and went to the hospital (after a couple more drinks at the club - honest, I'm not an alcoholic...). The doctor at A&E, having taken the x-ray asked me to confirm when I'd done it - yes, it was about thirty hours ago... :biggrin1:
Sorry cj, hijaking your 'ouch' thread...

Nics advice on Arnica cream is best. I've used it on heavy bruising before and it works wonders.
Hope you recover quickly dude. Remember to keep it elevated AKA kick back with your feet up and have a cigar :D

Elevation makes perfect sense Monkey as yesrtday morning it felt ok-ish, but got progressively more painful within hours, swelling back up.
So the general consensus seems to be kick back with booze and a phat one.
I'm under Dr. Botl's orders then:biggrin1:

Hey Simon, I had my best game ever when on tour and pished, it was a Sunday morning game near Chester and we had been on the lash for about 12 hours straight. I don't remember the game, I just (vaguely) remember getting man of the match after.

Hows the foot/ankle cj...?
Fully recovered yet...?
Or is it a case of 'honestly darling I still can't put any weight on it, now be a love and pass me my brandy and cigar...!!!'

Cheers for asking HabS:smile:
The ankle remains swollen to the outside and actually looks malformed:(
On top, or under this anatomically, is damage to the fatty tissue of the heel (sustained previosuly, but worsened by the impact)
Which as you note can be handy for the ol' empathy chestnut:biggrin1:
Kiting has been out since sadly:eviltongue: although I shall return:rock:

Hey CJ, I guess I should have looked at the date of your post. Well, I am glad your foot is better anyhow.
