Being the humidor impaired (not for much longer!) newbie that I am, I was looking for somewhere to buy the occasional stogie to smoke that has a more varied choice than the odd tubos stocked by my local wine shop. A colleague suggested to give Robert Graham's a try and so I went to have a look at this shop this afternoon
This place has been mentioned before in passing in the Edinburgh cigar shops thread, but I thought a few more details might be interesting for anyone who might be passing thorugh Glasgow.
I was a bit disappointed by the size of the shop, which is quite small; no walk in like the Edinburgh one, if you have been to that one. The very friendly lady in the shop explained to me that they originally had a larger shop that was damaged in 2005 by afire in a neighbouring building and they only re-opened in Glasgow at the end of 2007. It seems like they are looking for something bigger for the future.
Having said that, the choice, for such a small place, is not too bad. I didn't jot down all that they have but I noticed a decent selection of the ususal Cuban suspects from which I choose a couple: Upmann, Hoyos, R&J, Montecisto, Cohibas plus a few other. Just a few NCs and I bought a couple of these too. Maybe not a terribly exciting selection, but the best place I have seen in town so far.
The service was great. I asked for a few suggestions "for someone who wants to get into cigars a bit more seriously" i.e. your truly , and we spent the next twenty or so minutes chatting about what they had in store, which might be good newbie cigars an so on. In the end I left with these (in a Humi Pouch):

(R&J Petit Princes, Dominicos Robusto, Monte N.4, Torano Petit Corona and Upmann Coronas Junior). The Dominicos wasn't one of the suggestions to be honest, but it was on offer and I wanted to give something bigger a try too.
I always enjoy shopkeepers who enjoy taking their time to help you make your choice without hassling you and this was definitely the case.
They also sell online (http://www.whisky-cigars.co.uk/) and I noticed the range they offer is pretty similar to what CGars has, if slightly more expensive; digging through the website I read that the guy behind CGars is one of the business partners, which would explain things.
It's certainly a shop I would go back to from time to time, although I suspect that once the humidor is there I'll probably buy more online following the great tips here.
