Hey Mates! I just tried my first HDM, so I thought I would do a quick review for others who may not have tried one yet.

Hoyo de Monterey Petit Robusto
Unknown box code - purchased a 3 pack to sample

Appearance: An attractive looking smoke that appears to have been constructed with care. Nice shade of brown with little to no defects.
4.5/5

Construction: Prelight draw gave a nice clean tobacco and cedar taste. The burn on this cigar was impeccable. Probably, one of the best burning CC I have ever smoked (I always have good burns with Partagas D4 and Shorts as well). A quality smoke here. 4.5/5

Flavor: Upon lighting, the clean crisp tobacco taste continues with a predominately woody flavor. After the first third, the same flavors dominate, but the spice ramped up a bit. This is not an overly complex smoke. The same flavor profile dominates throughout. However, the spice kicks up a notch after the midpoint. This is an enjoyable smoke and one that I would revisit again. I nubbed and burnt my fingers on this one, which I tend to do on a lot of good smokes. I took my time with this one, as I am not a fast smoker and it lasted a good hour. 4/5

Overall, I enjoyed this smoke and will certainly buy a box. I have only had these resting in my humi for about a week before lighting, so I can only imagine how good they will be after some time. (I know curiosity got the best of me). Sorry for not posting pics, I am not much of a photographer, but may do so in future reviews.

Thanks for the review jdawg121. Interesting, will have to give them a try too, as I've been looking for a HdM to try.

Yes...very nice review, senor Dawg.

I used to smoke quite a few HdM petits and have bought several boxes in the past. I sorta' burned out on 'em, though:dontknow:, but I have about six tucked away that I will try again after they age a little - 5 or more years.

But hey! That's me, :bandit: TJ, TJCoro,

Great review jdawg! That's my second favorite stick from the HdM line.
I only have a few left in the humi from a cab of 08.

Hey Big J, what is your favorite from this line as I am curious to try others?

jdawg, Epicure #2 is my favorite from the HdM line. I also like, Epicure #1, Le Hoyo Du Roi and HdM Churchill. Try the Epic #2 is a very good robusto. :41:

Anything from HdM is a win for me. Ya all know my love for the HdM Epi 2.

It sounds like the Epi #2 is a winner. If it is anything like the Petit, I am sure it is great. I will have to try a few.

Strangely, I've not got on with the Epi 2 myself. Nothing particularly exciting in my book. *shrug*

Had a brain fart moment. I realised that I had tried a HdM - an Epi2.

I'm with Dave on this one - it did anything but excite me. Maybe it was a duff one, but it was really quite bland and the construction was average at best. I'll doubtless give it a second chance at some point, but, thus far, not a big fan.

Try it with some Canada Dry. Astonishing combination.

Jdawg, think you were right to take your time with the Petit, as they can turn hot otherwise. Much prefer the Epi No 2 but for a smaller smoke the Petit is fine. Funny thing though, they are not really for when you don't have time for an Epi No2, as by smoking it slower I usually find they last about the same time, for me 45-50mins.

I agree! They are not to be rushed and can last as long as an Epi #2.

Right on, there JD. The HdM pr is possibly my fave cigar. They always last me an hour. Then again, I always take my time.
