[..or a "smoke/fish" perhaps?]

I notice a few of you have listed "fishing" or "fly fishing" under intrerests as I have, so I wondered if there would be any interest in arranging a meet up close to London to pursue the double delights of casting & herfing?

If so I would suggest here as a good destination:

... not only because it's 10 minutes from where I live (also only 30 mins by train from Waterloo, close to M25 & M3), but it also has a fully stocked bar & restaurant with Flowers & Thatchers cider on draught, plenty of seating out by the water AND a covered & heated smoking area.

I was up there on Saturday afternoon - only the second time I've been . Didn't catch (had 4 my first time) but was only there for a couple of hours and wasn't really in the right frame of mind for fishing - the pint & pipe at the end had the desired relaxing effect.

It's not an easy fishery - most people fish it catch & release although you can "take" and people regularly have double figure (number) catches. However, as well as being accessible, it's also quite picturesque & cheap: I could have had 3 hours for my £10 had the beer & smoke not tempted me away, and a fairly full day can be had for £15 or £20.

Might not be easy getting people together before the cold rain and early nights set in, but I thought it worth a go. BTW Being self employed (self-unemployed?) I'm not restricted to weekends.

Casting tuition can be arranged (beforehand) for those whove not tried it before

Any takes?

Sounds interesting. If dates are suitable I would make the effort to drive over from Oxon.

October half term would work for me (being a teacher). Good time of year, water cooling down and trout starting to chase.

i used to live just round the corner from there, they used to have a big sign outside saying "COARSE FISHING" me and some pals, one drunken night, removed the C&O from the sign :smoke: still has me in stitches!

As mentioned - I'm able to do most weekdays (except half term when I'll up be fishing on the Ure)- a Friday would be a good day if one or two could also make it. However, assuming most others wouldn't be free on a weekday, a Saturday is probably next best day.

Only Saturdays I can do in October are the 10th & 17th.

Could possibly do Sunday 1st November, but might be getting a wee bit chilly by then.

Can anyone else do the 10th or 17th?

BTW - I have a full set of spare tackle (my starter outfit).

Also they're quite relaxerd about non-fisherman so anyone would be welcome to come along to "soak up the atmosphere" and perhaps try a bit of casting on the bank (for free). First time I went there I had a non-fishing mate along who did just that - mind you, it was a lovely early suimmer day.
