I've come across a Dominican brand by the name of Private Stock. The packets say 'Ungraded Premium Cigars' and they are hand made...but their price seems very hceap. Does anyone have any experience of Private Stock cigars? In particular any of their Tubos or Coronas?

Yep! We (famalia Coro) are familiar with Private Stock!

:hmmmm2: I haven't seen them around these parts for several years, but I remember it to be a very nice stick, especialy for the price :thumb:.

:nerd: I'm told they are made at the same Dominican factory as the Davidoff, the Griffins, and AVO. :gossip: Word on the street back in the day was that they were 2nds to either the the Griffins or Davidoff. :dontknow:

:nerd: Either way, if it's the same stogie (A :photo: pic would be nice), :cowboyic9:its a mighty fine stick.

:849:Do they look like the pic below?

Would anybody be up for a box split - as i would like to see what a few are like, but dont really want to commit to a whole box?

The certainly look the same, but I'd not found them in large qty boxes, only in 4 packs from C.Gars (http://www.cgarsltd.co.uk/dominican-cigars-private-stock-c-317_102_384_243.html). Good to know they're ok, may have to try a packet, once I've bought my humi that is.

Its cheaper to have half of a box from cigar.com (10) than it is to get 4 on cgars!

I have had other smokes like this that were made in factories that make high end but it is really hit or miss. The 3x3 is a Davidoff blend that is sold off cheaply but is rather nice considering the price (long filler IIRC). I have not tried the Private Stock but would be suspect of the "medium filler" markings on the box and would translate that as "cuts" or waste from other cigars rolled into make this cigar. You might get inconsistant flavors and I would almost guarantee burn issues.

Just my honest opinion.

they used to have a short filler and a long filler version of these. i always thought they were fantastic. someone here the other day gave a review of them and totally hated them. like tj said i heard they are rolled in the davidoff factory as well.

Mm, sounds fun, Jim, if you get someone to split a box with you I wouldn't mind 5 as that's about all I can fit in my Humidor.

Pip pip.

They're Davidoff seconds. They don't pass the Davidoff criteria for whatever reason.

That's the word on the street, senor raindrip.

:nerd: Let's see what they say about these so-called Private Stock stogies over at Cigar International:

"A dependable every day smoke from the folks at Davidoff.

Private Stock is a rich, flavorful cigar from the Davidoff of Geneva factory in the Dominican Republic. Known as “Davidoff Seconds”, each of these cigars employs premium long-filler tobaccos and attractive Connecticut shade wrappers combined with the same quality and care as the higher-end Davidoff lines. All this makes for a top-notch handmade cigar from one of the world’s most prestigious names, at an incredible CI-like bargain price. "

:hmmmm:WOW! This is unbleavable!!!! I may have to pick up a box or two....:41: just like the old dayz!

:849:Get me a few boxes while you're at it, Senor :juggle: Balls

:catsmoker: (Ahem.) I prefer firsts over seconds anyday. But that's just me, gratuitous dawg smokin' a pipe smiley!

Davidoff criteria is stringent (30 point inspection), and I guess these don't pass for whatever reason. The first time I had one of these, I honestly said, dang these are a lot like Davidoffs before I found out they were seconds. In all honesty though, these 'seconds' can pass off as firsts for many cigar companies. In my experience with these, I couldn't cosmetically find a flaw with them... To each their own, I guess.
