Hi all, just wanted to say hi and pick your brains.

Bought my first humidor this afternoon from James Barber in Otley, along with a Hoyo de Monterey edicion limitada 2003 and a Montecristo No. 2.

On getting home I realised I had no distilled water. Until I can get some tomorrow how should I best store the cigars for the next few days until the humidor is ready? They are presently in a sealed clear plastic bag.

I also have a Montecisto petit tubos I bought a week ago from Wine Rack. Should I take it out of the tube before I put it in the humidor?

Also, must it be distilled water I use or can de-ionised water be used too?

It's late so this is a short first post but I'm looking forward to further contributions.

Hi Jono

There is a wealth of information here, just have a search on some of the old posts to find out everything you need. Theres a lot of interesting posts

De-ion water is fine,

I would keep the monte in the tube but would be a bit dubious on how wine rack had stored it and for how long.

Hey there! Congrats on your fine purchases. I'd say they'll probably be fine in the plastic bag, but a tupperware box may be better if you have one that doesn't smell.

My personal opinion is that distilled water is fine, though using the search button up top will bring you a multitude of others opinions. I'd say take the lid off the tubo in the humidor.

Head on over to Newbie Greets and 'get some'. :D

:cowboyic9:Howdy there, senor juno....:love:loved the movie!

:nerd: Small plastic bag (or as the americanos say, :hippie: a baggie) is the best, IMO. Less air to dry out your prize puros.

:nerd: Distilled water is recommended, but in a pinch, any water is better than nothing, just don't make it a practice.

:nerd: Tubos in the humidor - your choice, depending on the condition. If they are dry, take 'em out. If they are in good shape, :hmmmm:your call. But for the record, tubos do not protect against drying out indefinately, but they slow it down a bit.

:41:Hope you find the information useful as you begin your journey down the path of fine :849:Habano puros!
