Blimey! When did you turn into gss? :p

I don't have a favourite vitola I'm afraid-they all have their moments. I probably smoke more robustos than anything else but I wouldn't say they are my fave. I like 'em all. I tried to think about it backwards too, and see if there was one I didn't like, but no strong feelings any way!

If time permits, I love kicking back with a Double Corona or 2 :cowboyic9:
If time doesn't, I enjoy a Petit Corona :849:

Creative post, Mr. B!

I don't know if I have a favorite vitola. If I were to go by what I smoke most often, it would be the robusto. In the winter months, I prefer the petit robusto or petit coronas.

Depending on the cigar smoked, my favourite vitola changes, but overall, I would go with robusto. I do like a nice torpedo though when time permits.

Probably robusto for me...torpedo is a close second...

ROBUSTO,
preferred generally, but also like the figurado in all its shapes and sizes. I love the shapes of some of the perfectos.
(sorry for shouting, I don't know what came over me)

Robusto and petit robusto.

Kind of rare but if you can find it....

Maravillas (double robusto). Examples are the Montecristo maravillas (55 x 182) from the 2005 Montecristo "book" and the Cohiba sublimes extra (54 x 184) from the 2008 Cohiba "book".

Aesthetically I going to go with the campana/perfecto:41:

Well I prefer a robusto. But I often find a torpedo to be quite exotic and enticing.

Robusto! If I have the time a toro. Robusto is just right for my commute to work. Down to a nub by the time I get there, down to a nub by the time I get home!

I much preferred the slightly longer Behike myself T...much more complex. I've only had three though so can't really judge

Good thread (with a not unsuprising leader at the moment).

For me, due to usual time constaints, the PC is my favourite.

If I have time to kick back with a robusto or, even better, a torpedo then it is definitely a moment to savour. :849:

a churchill preferably or a robusto if time is short.

i'd say in terms of size i prefer a corona or corona gorda. Robustos come high up too.

I have to be in the right mood for something larger.

Here's another vote for Robusto.

Robusto or Sublime size.

Arggghhh! You bloody Limeys with your fecking Robustos. It's only because it makes your peckers look bigger. Robustos are for children.

Give me a nice, fat Torpedo any day. Love the way it concentrates the smoke.

Churchills are nice.

Double Coronas are the best.

And let's dispel this notion of not having enough time for a larger vitola once and for all. There is no such thing as not having enough time to smoke a longer, fatter stogie. There is only the need to re-prioritize what is important. Work? Feh! Family? Puh! Sleep? Over-rated! Nothing quite so fulfilling in your miserable, pathetic, scuffling, little life as sitting down and puffing a good see-gar for an hour or two, preferably with a libation of choice.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

(And what's with this propensity of late for SHOUTING on this forum?)

I really dislike all the shouting - can't help but wonder that sometimes the louder one shouts the less one has to say.

I really like piramades and torpedos - my fave.

I think Mr B was just taking the piss, so all is cool ;) Though G-man could tone his posts down a bit more!

I'm with Dave on this. I think all vitolas have a place in a day and moment. Having said that I agree that torpedos/ Figurados tend to concentrate flavours better and Given two cigars of the same ring gauge I'd probably pick a torpedo if available.

The only vitola I have an issue with is longer cigars (double Coronas , Churchills, etc) when they don't evolve flavourwise. It gets a bit boring if you get the same aroma for two hours unless that is really mindblowing. Having said that I only had this issue in a NC Churchill once.

Yeah I've been aging some NC churchills, had one the other day, it was ok. It was a light smoke to begin with , but smoking it was a bit bland. It behaved nice and had a nice soft touch, but at times my pallette demands something a bit more.....say...harsh. :D

Yeah, with you there Monkey:smile:.
I notice Mr B hasn't committed since kicking this one off. I'm guessing, taking into account his sensory penchant for meat products, that he luuurves a Bratwurstenciggaren:p

I guess coming from the NC side of things it all depends on the blend. If the wrapper is donating a lot of flavors I would opt for a lonsdale, panatela, or corona. If the wrapper is mellowing some stronger fillers, like you find in some maduros, I tend to go with a toro, torpedo, or churchill.

Due to time constraints I do have quite a few robustos in the humi. But I will admit, I'm a sucker for a perfecto!

I like most but my fav is a churchill , I sometime thick a DC is a bit too big and a robusto a bit small

Chalk me up for a churchill, or, if time permits, and the occasion demands, a double corona.

But, like the majority, I'll give most sizes (and shapes) a whirl. :cowboyic9:

Peria, Rayes and small Figurado are favorite with me. Being a fairly newby I find even finishing anything bigger, be it how tasty, a bit of a struggle.

hmm... after smoking both CCs and NCs for a few years I have come to this conclusion: I prefer small ring for CCs and large ring for NCs. The reasoning has to do with the filler and wrapper balance. For CCs that best leaf is the wrapper, shadow grown wrappers nicely aged for 3 years. With smaller ring cigars the wrapper comes more into play, bringing lots of complexity.

On the other hand with NCs, the wrappers are usually overly sweet, as they have been grown under the sun (only Fuente does shade-grown wrappers), which means that their sugar levels are higher. But... NC producers take really good care what goes into the filler, and use really good leafs, nicely aged and fermented, which I don't think is the case with CCs... Hence the good quality of filler offsets the sweetness of the wrapper, but you need a lot of leaf, hence larger ring cigars.

Now.. this might be completely in my head... but this is a conclusion I came to after smoking quite a few (hundreds...) of both CCs and NCs, and I consistently found that I preferred small and large ring respectively. I only found out about the wrappers after I was trying to figure out why I had such preference.

Maybe someone has a similar experience?

Interesting and informative! I too have noticed the sweetness of non cubans and had not realised this was the reason. It makes sense.

I'm nto a fan of the very large vitola as I never seem to have the time to finish them. I'm currently enjoying the robusto size but have to admit I'd love to try something a bit more exotic looking like a lancero.

Short and thick for me, anything over 50 ring gauge and 5 inchs long. Im a huge fan of Nubs, especially the 60gauge , i also like the 64 gauge Te-amos :)

Morris
03-02-2010, 02:01 PM
Agree on the Nubs. Do the Short Churchills come close to replicating that kind of smoking experience?

Lee Nub
03-02-2010, 02:04 PM
Not really for me. The Nub habano 460 is one of my favourite cigars at the moment, though I'm waiting on a few samplers of some other large ring gauges

Morris
03-02-2010, 02:09 PM
I hear they have brought out a maduro too?

Something about the NUB, bar the hype, they just feel right in your hand. Especially if you've got a good drink in the other.

The maduros are being slated at the moment, not many people liking them from what i have read. Im still to try one, im not a fan of lighter wrappers, so the connecticuts dont do it for me, but those habanas, mmmmmmm

Morris

I've got a 6 sample pack (not including the maduro) coming so I'll pop a review on the site when they arrive.
