Thought I'd just mention that it's the 100th birthday today of....Wind in the Willows! First published October 8th, 1908.
Can always picture Ratty with a cigar in his mouth. :smoke:
And of course, there are all the creatures living in the Wildwood.... (cue spooky music)...
A very mixed up, weird sort of book...but I've always loved it (maybe that's why)!

Mate
I've only ever seen TV versions of that.
Did you finish that French (trans) cigar book?

Read it mate...lifts the stress! You want to know where the Floyd got the title for their Piper at the Gates of Dawn album? Read the book...:biggrin1:
Yep, finished the book pretty much in one sitting...not much more to say about it really...couldn't truly recommend it.
You never said whether you'd read that Maupassant story "The scent of Lemon Verbena" (or similar - no idea what it is in French)...if not, I'll dig out the details, 'coz I feel that you would really enjoy it!

I've read many of Maupassant's short stories and taught them to A Level classes, but never the one you've mentioned.

I'll check it out...my memory is like a sieve so I probably have the wrong author...but I'll take a look through the personal library...

Love the Railway Children, but very embarrassing 'coz I just blub at the end every time...how sad is that? And in front of the kids!!
Another blub moment is the last five minutes of Disney's Beauty and the Beast...although I'm not keen on Disney, I just can't watch this one without tears rolling down my cheeks. What a softy!!
