Arturo Fuente is a well known brand of cigars introduced by Arturo Fuente Sr. and produced by Tabacalera A. Fuente with the name of ?A. Fuente?. In 1912 Arturo Fuente cigar was first time manufactured in Florida and was rolled by hand. Till 1960 it was made with Cuban tobacco but later on technology shifted from Cuban tobacco to Dominican tobacco. The Arturo Fuente has a large range of cigars, classified from inexpensive to the premium.

The Fuente Opus X is another variant of the same brand, invented & introduced in 1995. Fuente family was very crazy about this new brand and struggled much to make it renowned and well demanded.

Fuente product line has huge variety in provision of quality and its subsequent price with the promise of smoker?s satisfaction and choice. It is assumed that Fuente Opus X is a "Flag Ship" but many others like ?Hemingway and 858? are also in demand and famous as well. Arturo Fuente cigars are also presented in different sizes & shape to the smokers from tiny cigar to the giant cigars. The best thing of ?Fuente family? is their professionalism and keen about the quality standards of their respective brands which make them distinctive. During packing the boxes, an advanced humidification device is used to ensure stability and freshness of cigars. It is the view of tobacco experts that Gothamcigars is a complete solution of all queries regarding tobacco and cigars

Out of interest has anyone tried any Arturo Fuente cigars?

Nope, never tried them, though everything I've read suggests the Opus X is a helluva good smoke...

Depends.

It's a very nice smoke, indeed, but is it worth 25-40 (or so) USD?

The hype about these cigars is warranted; they are superb. However, for the price, there are many, many other cigars I'd rather smoke.

Interesting, Rokkitsci...

Care to make a few recommendations for perhaps "under-hyped" cigars deserving our attention? I for one, would be pretty interested in your views...

A pleasure, Wildwood!

For starters, there's the 5 Vegas (pronounced "cinco vegas"). I particularly like the Gold, especially the Torpedo. Cigars International will be happy to sell this line to you at around $3.00 USD per stick every day of the week (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-5GA&cat=3); however, they can usually be obtained on cigarbid.com for $2.00 or less.

This is an absolutely gorgeous cigar, impeccably crafted and puts many cigars 2, 3, and even 10 times more expensive to shame. I have yet to smoke one that did not burn perfectly, with a lovely smooth draw, tasting very rich and creamy all the way down to the nub. It's worth your while to invest in a 5-pack just to try them, since they're so reasonably priced.

Then, my other "under-hyped," el cheapo favorite is the Don Kiki Red from Cuban Crafters.Tabacalera Esteli in Nicaragua makes this cigar with a funny name and I've tried quite a number of their cigars, but keep coming back to the Red, particularly the Churchill (http://www.cubancrafters.com/products.php/item_id/27).

It's a nicely made cigar, not spectacular, burns very nicely with an easy draw that delivers delicious, medium-strength billows of a kind of nutty/earthy flavor smoke. Not an adequate description, but the best I can do, I'm afraid.

Oh! By the way, did I mention that these 7 x 52 sticks of pure delight will cost you $2.00 USD apiece? Cheaper when they go on sale (periodically).

Now I'm not claiming that the 5 Vegas or the Don Kiki compare to the Opus X. The simple truth is that they're in a much humbler caste. The Opus is a very complex, sophisticated smoke. But it is virtually unobtainable (deliberate limited production by Fuente) in the first place, and then... I'm sorry, but unless the damn thing gives me a blow job at the same time I'm smoking it -- it's still JUST A CIGAR! Forty or fifty USD for a smoke? I've done it and I can say I've tried and I enjoyed it and I will NEVER do it again.

My initial curiosity about cigars has grown from a 50-count humidor that I never thought I would fill to a bit of an obsession with over a thousand sticks in 11 humidors ("Gee, these don't seem to fit anywhere; I'll just get another humidor to tide me over"). Most of them are well-known non-Cuban brands ranging in price from 4-5 USD to 6-8 USD per stick. There is a wealth of information available on most of them and I have no intention of trying to condense that just to echo other peoples' opinions here.

Instead, since you asked about "under-hyped" cigars, thought I'd tell you about my favorite bargain cigars.

Rokkitsci - brilliant answer, and just what I had in mind! :)

Straitened finances mean creative solutions required, so that is extremely helpful.

I'm off to check availability over this side of the puddle...

Thanks for taking the time.

Regards,

Wildwood

Great info rokkitsci

Wonder if it would be worth us all buying a few packs together and dishing them out?

I have to disagree with rokkitsci on these recommendations - no hard feelings, kind sir. Unfortunately, I have tried all three of these brands. I say "unfortunately" because 5 Vegas and Don Kiki cigars are just plain awful. I bought a cheap humidor that came with 24 Don Kikis and I smoked every last one of them at various times throughout the aging process and every time I was disappointed. They are rolled nicely and produce an even burn, but they taste like cheap cigarette tobacco. The same goes for 5 Vegas, which I have smoked both churchills and robustos. Now, I have not had 5 Vegas Gold, but if it is anything like the 5 Vegas Classic it should be avoided no matter how cheap it is to buy.

Good, reasonably priced smokes are Punch, Rocky Patel, Sol Cubano, Oliva, and CAO. Arturo Fuente also has some cheaper cigars in their portfolio but I have found that nothing from the D.R. or Nicaragua, or Honduras, is as well made or as tasty as Padron Anniversary and Padron 1926 cigars.

I agree, Punch, Rocky Patel, Oliva, CAO and Arturo Fuente are good smokes as I have tried all, ok not all the different makes that they do but still like the shapes of the ones I have...

Just can't get a good delivery price for them from America:(

I'd be happy to swap cigars with you. I am sending a Padron out to Robusto and it costs like $5. Well worth it if we swap a few cigars. What cigars do you want to try, I'll see if my tobacconist down the street carries them.

No umbrage taken, mate. After all, taste is a relative matter: you like chocolate, I like vanilla...

I wasn't claiming that the Don Kiki (reds only, I don't care that much for the greens, browns, or whites) or the 5 Vegas were fine cigars, only that I believe they are bargain cigars. For the price paid, I was well satisfied with the merchandise.

The Padron 1926 Anniversary is arguably one of the finest (non-Cuban?) cigars ever made. However, at $20-$50 USD PER STICK (!!!) I'm not entirely sure that I can honestly say that they are 10-15 times better than my bargain brands. Would I turn one down? Certainly not. Would I buy one? Not on a bet...

Although I've not had the good fortune to try many premium cigars, I would love to try so Arturo Fuente cigars, particularly the Canones, the best of the Arturo Fuente range :)

There are a few others that I'd like to try, including the double maduro, etc :)
