View Full Version : Choice of one brand

As someone who buys plenty of cigars each year - most of which are based on recommendations from this board - I always think I should cut down on the range of cigars I buy and focus on one brand.

So, my question to you all is; if you were only allowed to buy one brand for the remainder of your cigar smoking career, which brand would it be?

I have been thinking about this far too much recently and personally would go for the HdM brand. It has the perfect double corona, a great robusto, as well as the Epi #1 - much underated in my opinion, the newish Petit Robusto - basically every size one could desire and none of which are too expensive.

That's my opinion, what about yours?

If you're rich then can only be Cohiba, if not either HdM or Partagas but having not been through the range its a close call, probably leaning towards the party's.

Have to agree with you on the Cohiba's but out of my price range I'm afraid. What thoughts on Monte's?

I too would opt for the HDM range. There is something there for every eventuality.:smoke:

HdM gets my vote too, at least as far as being a complete range from the tiny Hoyo du Maire to the manly double coronas.

..but maybe I'm just too wimpy for Partagas :eviltongue::biggrin1:

I haven't tried that many, being a newbie but I really like HdM's petit robusto. As time and experience goes on we'll all have to revisit this thread.

For me, I'd probably jump on the Partagas band-wagon (I love my ERdM cigars, but there's not quite enough variation). I couldn't in all honesty go with HdM, as so many have - I've had two, and been quite disappointed by both.

Anyway, Partagas. :849: (Though the Trinidad idea is not a half bad shout).

I'm pretty new, so can only go by what I've smoked and preferred the most. So it would have to be Cuaba.

I'd say hoyo de monterrey or partagas

I'm a massive Cuaba fan (my fav smoke is the Distinguidos), although for all round brands its still gotta be Partagas.

I would have to say Partagas, then H. Upmann.

Partagas.

Closely followed by by Bolivar.

I'd have to say Cohiba - but that's partly due to limited experience on my part.
Having had my eyes opened by this forum, I'm hoping to branch out in 2010 and try some of your recommendations.

I've never had a Cuaba. What's a good one to start with?

The Divinos is a great little smoke if you're into grab-a-smoke cigars. The Generosos is good and the Distinguidos is awesome. I find the real big boys get a little dull in the middle, but I may well be alone in that respect.

I really like the Piramides LE 2008 too.

Im the other way about with Cuaba, I prefer the big smokes over the smaller ones...

I've got a couple of the LE 2008s sitting, not tried em yet but heard bad things about em.:(

Really difficult.

At the moment i would prefer Bolivar.
- Belicosos Finos
- Inmensas
and the incredible Corona Gigantes.

If Cuban cigars were legal I would choose Partagas. Particularly the Serie D No. 4.

Since I cannot legally buy Cuban cigars, my choice is Arturo Fuente.

I'm in the Partagas camp too. Wouldn't ever imagine just smoking one make of cigar but if given no other alternative that would be my choice.

I have often contemplated cutting it down to just 5 different 'brands' but at least one new cigar pops up that changes my opinion on that...

Not a choice I would be happy about having to make :frown:

I just finished off a Cohiba Edición Limitada 2003 Double Corona gifted me by El Catador (who must be rich, looking at the price of these beasts, as well as connected, since virtually no vendor has any of them in stock). Over seven inches of pure, unadulterated smoking pleasure. I literally didn't want to take this stogie out of my mouth. Exceptional 'gar.

I mention this because I believe Cohiba is the largest selling Cuban cigar for a reason: They're damn fine cigars! This 2003 and the Siglo VI are arguably among the best cigars I have ever smoked (along with the Padrón 1926 Maduro and 45th Anniversary Maduro).

I don't deny other Cuban cigar lines are very good, but for me, it would have to be Cohiba.

Agree with all of this...apart from the 2008 LE Drew...were slightly bland for me...hence, I sold them to CIV...hahahahaha

It would have to be Bolivar for me :41: Lovely "full" flavours, but not as harsh as I sometimes find Partgas. Also partly a sentimental choice, as Boli tubos were my first "proper" cigars after trying King Teddies and Henri Wintermann's!

Can I choose "Cuban" as my brand? Or is that cheating...

I've really enjoyed Cuaba and Sancho P, still working my way through the brands to be honest. For now I'll go with Cohiba (purely because they are the only brand I'm yet to experience burn/construction issues with)

Well at the risk of sticking out like a sore thumb, I'm gonna say RyJ's. Based on a daily diet of short churchills (although admittedly they can be a bit variable in quality) and Dukes or PP LE 05's on the weekend :cowboyic9:

A couple of years ago I would have said Hoyo but since then I have tried the best Piramide, DC & Robusto and have thoroughly enjoyed the Aristocrat and the 898.

I'm Partagas.

(No, I'M Partagas)

I'd probably go for Cohiba. If for no other reason than they have a large range of vitolas and include three, soon to be four, distinct lines.
