Hi

I am thinking about getting a winecooler and using it for my cigars.

Anyone here done the same thing and have any advice?

I see them talked about on american websites/forums and think its a good idea.

I work from home (computer programmer) and my office is very warm with all this pc equipment etc even without heating on and my humidor is too hot. I cant really put it anywhere else so this looks like the answer :(

Whats the best way do you think to get the humidification right? 65% Beads maybe?

Yeh and I got some for sale still, in the for sale forum. Expensive though.

Think someone has a coolidor here, wouldn't mind doing it myself, but the large hummi I got at the mo seems ok.

What do you program, I'm a J2EE Development Manager...

So rokkitsci can you give me a link/idiots guide to doing this.

Is it just a case of getting a winecooler and adding beads? Is it that simple :P

Here's a few eamples of various homemeade humidors, with a few collidors included :)

http://www.cigargroup.com/gallery/homemade.htm

Here is a video by Walt from Stogie Review, who gives instructions on how to make a coolidor, but I'm not sure if it'll be any help and so, I'll post the link and you can decide for yourself :)

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/K7HliFCVzj8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/K7HliFCVzj8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And finally here's another video showing a wine collidor and there are some details included of how the coolidor is set up, etc :)

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/q3tNbdiahkw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/q3tNbdiahkw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I hope that this helps in some way or another, good luck :)

Here's a link with some good information:

http://www.stogiereview.com/2006/09/26/how-to-build-a-coolidor/

For mine, I actually constructed a Spanish cedar box to fit inside a cooler. Since the cooler's inside is slightly rounded and my box is not, I have been stuffing the gaps with cedar wrappers. I use a bag of humidity beads to maintain my moisture content and so far, I am very pleased.

Note, however, that with the cost of the cedar, I probably would have been better off just buying a damn humidor outright! But it is a conversation piece.

I got my spanish cedar from a timber merchants near tonbridge...it was relatively expensive but not prohibitively so. If you are going to use it you really only need a lining.
