The P1 one was interesting but not sure I would smoke it over and over, like I would the Duke.
P1 is such a unique cigar.

whilst i can understand the the short list including the monte and duke my problem comes with the p2 as with many partagas regular production this habano has been consistant for many years and has always provided me with a great smoke. i suppose my point being is is the vote taking into account fresh or recently purchaced p2 or aged p2 seeing as the dukes and monte being LE have already been constructed with aged tobbaco and are LE'S after all. To try and conclude my choice would be the duke being as the best new or LE i have smoked in 2009 but is by no means the best habano i have smoked dont get me wrong give them a year or two and they will ace.. hope that makes sense..:41:

hello all,
this sounds like a great idea!!! personally, imo, i believe the best cigar of 2009 was the h upmann magnum 48 el2009, definitely the best the the el's anyway! i'm sure the 3 choices are justified, i find it odd that they're all different 'classes' of cigar, if that makes sense! in my local habanos shop here in belfast, the monte sublime is among the ELITE of the stock (£27 a pop if my memory serves me right) and therfor i haven't had one yet! the duke is £20 a pop and the P2 around £17!!! they've all different qualities........to me, it's like this:
1. the P2 comes out tops for a great 'value for money' big cigar (£3 dearer than a psd4, a quid cheaper than a cohiba robusto)!!!
2. the monte sublime comes out tops for it's desirability and general 'aura of greatness' (so much so i wanna smash the glass top of the counter in my habanos shop and do a runner with 'em! lol)!!!!
3. the RyJ duke comes out tops simply because it's the new kid on the block and has already come out fighting, gaining our love n' respect in such a short space of time! the 'rocky' of cigars imo! big n bulky in appearance, 'performs' fantastically, but really pleasant to deal with lol!
cheers kdot, you've created a real pickle of a puzzle!!!:confused::confused:
all the best,
alex

Hmmmmmmm .... not sure if U.S. Air Force would really want us discussing the attack characteristics of their planes, helicopters and unmanned reconnaissance drones on here Muma.
Some might smoke cigars though!

I am surprised by the result so far. I was sure the Sublime would have walked this.

Do you not think this result is based on cost?
It's less painful to buy a box of Dukes than a box of Sublimes, for example?
I prefer the Sublime over the Duke, but - cigar lover that I am - I think it's insane to shove a £30 stick in my mouth regularly.
So I looked at my box of Dukes and voted for that.
I lit up a Duke when driving back from London on my own yesterday in flurries of snow. I lit it near the Gherkin tower and headed through the Blackwall Tunnel south-bound. All the way through the city, I was showing off like a Lord at the wheel.
By the time I was passing Sittingbourne, I was getting a distinct taste of berries. Blackcurrants. The smoke was warming me up inside deliciously.
By the time I was avoiding Dover by back country routes, I was ending off the cigar.
When I drew up outside my house, I saw four best friends fresh back from a Lanzerote Christmas who were sitting in my house. They know I toke and 'rib' me about it - zzzzz - but have never seen me 'at it'. They don't smoke.
I went up to the loo, doused my moustache and gums, dried myself.
I imagined I'd honk of cigars - but I didn't. At least nobody said anything.
All this shows what a post-paranoid and rounded man I am, and that a workdesk of beaurocratic (sp?????) crud after two weeks off can set a man's digits swinging in a swinger's swinging life.
I do like a great smoke, but for normal life I smoke at around £8 to £12 per puro on average. My budget could extend beyond that, but I just cannot justify the expenditure when all else is considered.
I NEVER let her in on the calculations.
Come join me in my shack over a bowl of fortnightly Kentish gruel some time. :)

Man, whats a guy got to do to get some credit here
Going by the nominations thread I thought the Duke would take it easily...also surprised to see the Partagas P2 holding its own...

Just noticed that CA put the P2 tubos in 10th place of their best of 2009 (http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Top_25/Top_25_Display/0,4320,2009,00.html) (for the moment only no. 10,9 and 8 are out)... wonder if the Dukes and sublimes will be there...
... and where the Cohiba GRan Reserva will be :biggrin1:.

hello all,
out of curiosity, aside from the obvious, what's the difference between the tubed partagas p2 and the the untubed/boxed variety? is there any noticable difference in flavour and/ or intensity? i had a p2 tubos a while ago that knocked my socks off and was thinking about getting a box of 10! the only reason why i'm asking is that it's only the partagas p2 listed in this poll, whilst someone mentioned that the p2 tubos had made CA's top 10 for 2009!!!!
probably a stupid question that's been answered a million times before! any help would be greatly appreciated! i have bought certain cigars tubed and untubed before (psd4, boli rc, cohiba siglo2), but never thought it any more than a handy storage utensil to keep the cigar fresh & safe!!!
all the best,

I probably should not answer this because I have not had the tubo version. However, I believe them to be the same cigar except for the cool looking storage tube. Others, will be able to answer this for sure though.

Me ..... but, only because I haven't tried any of the candidate cigars. So can't give an qualified answer.
However, to Senor Robusto's question. I would reckon the P2 and P2 TUBOS are the same cigar. Wouldn't make sense for them not to be. Most likely they will be the prettiest pick of a production run to help justify the add-on cost of the nice packaging.

hey tippex,
cheers for the reply!!! i'm sure i've read somewhere that some folk are of the opinion that tubed cigars taste different due to the method of storage, the small space and the cedar wrapping supposedly intensifies the flavour and strength of the cigar! i was always of the opinion that there was no actual difference between the tubed and untubed cigars except the tubed version was more expensive due to the packaging! i was just curious as to why it was the P2 tubos that made it into CA's top 10 of 2009 and not the regular boxed version! then again, i guess it's not that important! the fact is, it's in there.......
sorry for wasting anyone's time with this stupid question!:der::confused::confused: thanks again
all the best

It wasn't a stupid question Alex. But this one is.
If the test was supposed to be blind. Eg. Bands off so the judges wouldn't recognise the Brand. How did that work with Cuaba's?
one day left gents! get those votes in!
