I am a very lucky boy. I have been gifted an H. Upmann Monarch for services rendered.
This is probably the biggest cigar I will have smoked. I have enjoyed a couple of Siglo IVs over time, but this is going to be a treat, I think.

I am a fan of most of the mid-sized H. Upmann cigars produced in the Dominican Republic. These cigars, like the Coronas Major (ring gauge: 42), Director Royale (44), and the Monarch (46), are all excellent and recommended. But, if asked to pick the one I like the best, the Monarch wins the prize.
This is a 7-inch cigar having a ring size of 46 (46/64ths of an inch in diameter) and could be considered a narrow Churchill-sized cigar, but H. Upmann markets this one as a Corona Imperiales. (The cigar that H. Upmann actually markets as a Churchill is actually a short 5-5/8" cigar having a ring gauge of 46.)
The Monarch is packaged in individual aluminum tubes and are rolled in a thin cedar blanket. It is handmade in La Romana, the Dominican Republic, for Altadis U.S.A., Inc. (formerly known as the Consolidated Cigar Corporation).
This is a beautiful, well made cigar featuring a silky, smooth, oily, and nearly vein-free Indonesian wrapper. The binder leaf is from the Dominican Republic and the filler is blended with tobaccos from Brazil and the Dominican Republic.
The Monarch does not offer the intensely woody flavor that some other Upmann cigars have. This cigar is a full-bodied cigar with a flavor that leans heavily into an oily and nutty spectrum. There is some cedar wood flavor, but nothing too strong to rob from the exotic flavor of the Indonesian wrapper. I smoked this cigar until I could no longer hold on to the butt; I just did not want to give this one up.
When compared to other cigars of this size -- for example: the Cuban made Punch Monarcas I tried last April ($15 a stick) -- I found the H. Upmann to be more flavorful. And, yes, I liked the H. Upmann Monarch better than the Villazon/H.A.T.S.A. produced Honduran Punch Double Corona (comparably sized at 6�" x 48 ring gauge).
Any thoughts?
