Nub Habano 358

I apologize for not having any firing squad pictures for this review, but seeing as I sent this cigar to both Robusto and CohibaIV I expect that at least one of those fellas will have pictures to share for this review.

APPEARANCE: These little cigars have a unique look about them because they are so short and fat. I think they almost look like a square cigar becuase they are practically as thick as they are long. The Habano 358 has a nice dark wrapper that smells pleasant too. It's appearance gets a full 5 out of 5.

AROMA: The cigar let off an aroma that was nothing spectacular, but not too harsh either. I enjoyed its rich smell throughout the cigar. 4 out of 5

BURN: A slightly warped burn, this cigar had a firm draw due to its enormous girth. I felt as though it was constantly in danger of going out, though it never did. 15 out of 20.

TASTE: I enjoyed the earthy overtone of this cigar. I don't know if the flavors warrant the Habano tag, but they are indeed rich cocoa flavors that subtly mix with the earthy taste. 59 out of 70

TOTAL TASTING SCORE: 83 OUT OF 100

Just a quick review not following the format, Joe. Thank you for sending me this beauty.

I smoked your NUB in the car on the journey home from my gig this evening. Sorry if that's sacrilege, but I haven't had the chance to enjoy a cigar for three days or so, and was gagging for a good one!

What a fresh tasting cigar! It's odd, but it tasted of olives to me. (I thought about that quite a bit when I was smoking it to see if I was barmy. Green olives definitely remains my overall impression of this smoke). It was really a pleasant taste. It was consistently mild (to me) all the way through, and was more complex after the first third.

Great volume of smoke - and a bulbous porker of a ring gauge. Has to be over 50, this one!

I had half smoked it when I reached my town, so parked down by the sea to enjoy the remainder of it.

This cigar has an incredibly compact ash! I kept it together for over two thirds of its length and then knocked it off accidentally as I was un-padlocking my garage. I was aiming to keep the entire cigar ash together until the end. Next time...

I walked slowly to my house and gripped the cigar between my teeth with no difficulty. I love being able to do that. Very John Wayne, and I like showing off with a cigar like that, even though the streets were deserted! I really walk with a bit of a strut when I 'm smoking a fat cigar.

Folk have written elsewhere that they like to wet their cigar end, and with a fat stogie like this I did slobber a bit on the end of the thing.

I have to say a fat cigar makes me feel really self-confident. I don't know if anyone else gets that feeling... I am a poseur with a cigar when possible. Plus it's a great feeling to almost bite a cigar, I find.

I purposefully didn't re-read your review up top. I will afterwards to see if I've matched what you wrote, or not.

I think when I order some more cigars, I'm going to get a couple of really fat bastards as they are great to smoke. :cowboyic9:

The ring gauge is actually 58. It's about 3" long or so which is why it is labeled 358. The other cigars come with similar labeling; 456, 460, etc. Fat cigars they are. :cowboyic9:

I smoked several Cohiba Esplendidos, an Ashton VSG, Ashton Maduro, a Padron 40th Anniversary, Rocku Patel Decade Torpedo, Arturo Fuente Anejo. Someone stole the Punch Rare Corojo that CohibaIV sent to me, and someone stole the Bolivar Gold Medal that I got from Monte. :mad::mad: I never should have let them out of my site at the reception. I guess some people figured it was a party and everything was for the taking.:frown:

On the bright side, my gift for being Best Man was a Xikar cutter and torch lighter. :cowboyic9:

Reviving an uber old thread, but i am very fond of Nubs and have heard loads of good things from all over the place about the Habano range, but can;t find them anywhere. I have a hunch that perhaps the sungrown range is a renaming of this. Am i right?
