My sister in law is travelling out of Heathrow in a couple of weeks. Has anyone any experience of purchasing in the duty free there? I believe the retailer is 'The Cigar House' from memory.

You can bet your life there still going to be pricey even without the duty. Where is she going? Any where at the destination she could pick them up?

I've been through many times and every time the humidity has been 40/45% - humidifier dry! price's maybe 5% less than full UK retail. If you have to get something... you could try something in a tube, I think it's stocked, or at least some are by JJ fox, actually next time one of you BOTL visit the shop, best let them know that the girl looking after the cigars in the airport, did not know that you have to put distilled water (or any water) in the humidifier, I also asked her what the number should read on that little gauge - she said 'I've no idea and it makes no difference anyway as they are in boxes' :biggrin1:

T3 has a good shop, but it's far from cheap. I'll have a check for bargains as I'm flying form there tomorrow and let you know. I wouldn't hold my breath. T5 has a pretty looking concession in the main shop, but its never cheap (even when its an extra 50% off Monte 2s etc)
Its not really worth buying Duty free here at all.

Sounds like a relative dead end then chaps. I was hoping someone would say price, selection and quality were worth checking out.
Re destination Mark, I've started another thread re the Big Apple:smile:

If I recall, the Dubai airport had a nice shop and setup.

A little way out of Heathrow admittedly:p
But yes RR. I had some JL PCs ('03) out of there a few months back. Good prices and lots of aged stock too. My father was passing through and had a list of possible cigars to pick from. He didn't choose any off my list:der:, but I wasn't complaining as he paid for half the box as a birthday pressie:biggrin1:

Here's a thought if any ones knows?
Do they ask you where your travelling to when buying at Heathrow?
Would they sell them to you if they knew you were travelling to the US?

Good question Boss, and I wonder whether as Brit, you would get away with it?

Just flown from Heathrow T3, the selection was fair, but the prices were poor.
However the main dissapointment on the return journey is that the new terminal at Barcelona not only has a really poor selection but as I went to buy a box of the regional edition Ramon Allones the woman asked "Do you have a humidor?" i replied yes, and she said 'Good, because all the cigars in here a quite dry and should have a few weeks in your humidor." I decided not to buy them.

Thanks Andy, I'll not be asking the SIL to check Heathrow out. I assume poor prices mean xxxy then.
A bloody good job you got the heads up at Barcelona there. The puro gods were looking down on you:41:

Heathrow has really gone downhill for cigars. Terminal 5 is useless except occasionally you get mispricings where the ignorance of the staff comes into play.
I have been asked once or twice as they inspect my boarding pass if I am aware I cant take them into the USA. Very different from the dedicated H&F store which was in terminal 4 where I seem to remember you could phone in advance and ask them to deband them
