View Full Version : The Cigar as a continuing symbol of Wanton Expenditure

I imagine in the current climate there will be a lot of reports like these doing the rounds:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/tm_headline=barclays-bank-staff-told-to-skip-cigars-and-champagne-at-christmas-parties&method=full&objectid=20845893&siteid=115875-name_page.html

It's always been like this.

If folk smoke one cigar on a company night over Christmas - as many of my professional mates do - why is that seized upon as wanton expenditure?

If they smoke ten cigarettes during the company ball, does that make it acceptable?

OK - The cigar is always seen as a capitalist's big burn, but where's the fun going?

If Churchill had taken the same attitude as Barclays then we would all be wearing leather trousers with bullet heads and duelling scars.

We all have ways of spending that little bit extra at the end of the month.

Some on cars, some on coin collecting, some on computer parts.

Mine's on cigars. Fuck it, I say.

They've got to pay off that $2.3 billion fine somehow!
