Spent the weekend in NYC and visited Mid-town Cigar and Barclay Rex.
Both of them had offered plenty of options, fantastic facilities to have the humidity kept above 70%, and the temperature..however the NC just wasnt my cup of tea. Compare to CC, the NCs that I smoked, including JR cigar, Hoyo Excalibur and Padron, tasted more like paper, or tasteless, I soon started to miss Cuba!!
I would strongly suggest you to bring a couple of CC next time when you visit the states!

Nice photos pedro. I've always enjoyed watching Cigar Aficianado's videos from various NYC cigar stores. As such have always wanted to visit one. :849:
Hopefully will be doing a bit of work at the British Consulate in either the New York or Boston over the summer, so will give the stateside cigar stores/lounges a check out.

The US shops I've visited when I've been there are always a pleasure to behold. JRs is a heck of place in NYC too.
For NCs, I think you must have just found some of the crappier sticks - there are some amazing NCs out there that give alot of cubans a run for their money.

I will open my mind and find a NC that I can truely enjoy ! When I go on Holiday I always bring my own cigars. Then I'm sure to have what I want to smoke. My brother this trip to NY was a lesson learned for life. And most that visit the States do already know what NC cigars their after,as they've smoke them before.

I smoked a Nub habano yesterday and an Upmann 48, i preferred the Nub tbh. I dont know if the 48 didnt have enough age yet , and i do really like the Nubs so maybe i was biased .
NC's for me , i do have a nice selection of cubans, but im loving those NC'S :)

The cigars in the 3rd photo, are they the "counterfeit" pre embargos?
I have a couple of those to try :smoke:

I realize that everyone's tastes are different. It has been said a million times.
But, how can you possibly write off NC, when you have only smoked maybe a handful, out of hundreds, and hundreds, and hundreds of NC available? It just doesn't make sense.
I don't know why it bothers me so much when people bash NC like this. The only reasons I can think of is because I know how good so many NC are, and people with very limited experience with them make judgments based on a few smokes.
I think you expected too much from the budget cigars that you smoked. The JR Label is a budget smoke that I certainly would not have recommended to someone trying NC for the first time. Many people smoke the Hoyo and Padron regular lines as everyday cigars because of their low cost and quality.
Don't give up yet, you will find something you like one day!

Potential overlap... :hmmmm: (Though I'll be dictated dates to, so don't know yet).
An international herf... now there's an idea. (Could say it's already been done, in that foreign land of Wales...)

This makes sense--most of the nc's I've had have not been all that enjoyable, but I have a Padron and an Arturo Fuente in the humidor, and I'm reserving judgment until I have one of these.
Pedro, nice photo's of New York there, bringing back many happy memories of my week there the week before Christmas.
I also visited Barclay Rex (although a different one from you it looks like) as well as a number of others, the cigars stores in NYC are absolutely top notch.
What I wanted to say was I think Pedro you should definately give NC another chance or two! I think like some of the guys above have already pointed out some of the NC you mentioned are possibly some of the lesser/cheaper (for want of a better expression) NC brands. Before you decide never to smoke a NC again you must try some/all of the following;
1. Rocky Patel (either 1990/1992/Decade or all)
2. Tatuaje (or any of the Pete Johnson lines)
3. Opus X (or any of the Fuente brands)
4. Padron (either the 1926/1964/40th Ann./80th Ann. or all)
5. Ashton (especially the VSG line)
6. Don Pepin Garcia (especially the My Father brand)
7. Padilla
Pedro I'm confident out of that lot your bound to find one you like, may be not as much as your cubans, but one you like never the less.
