Hello all,
I've been lurking here for some time so i thought i would drop a line and say hi. I'm not a big smoker but it's growing on me, started last summer at a wedding when offered a cigar, treated myself to a nice 100 cigar humidor for Christmas and now kicking myself i should have got a bigger one. Already planning to take my better half to Gibraltar to show her the sites and for her tobacco allowance as well lol.
As a newbie i'm leaning towards your milder cigars although over the colder winter i found a stronger cigar with a little more punch than usual certainly warms you up on a night walk with the dog.
I've already got bitten by the bug hard, finding excuses such as weddings in the summer to buy some nice cigars now like RyJ Churchills and some Cohiba Siglo IIs to be treated right in the humidor before enjoyed.
Anyway must get back to reading some more threads, so many cigars, so little time. Nice meeting you all.
Dave.

Hi, welcome aboard.
Always amazed at how many people say they find out about good cigars at weddings.
Enjoy the forum.

Hi Dave
Great introduction, in no time at all you will be onto your fourth (German) humidor and banging about the huge Partagas like an old hand!
Nice to have you join us here. Chip in no one will bite you (except that crazy Mexican and he's just toothless these days)

Thanks for the warm welcome although i expected nothing less. I'll try to come up with a few original questions but after a little bit of searching the forum most of my questions have been answered.
One quick one, does anyone put your other halfs best towels over your humidor in the colder months just to help insulate and stop vast fluctuations in temperature? Afterall i seem to be treating my better sticks like little children and well you wouldn't let a child get cold in bed while they sleep now would you or do you have any other tricks to keep you humidors in tip top condition temperature wise. I've moved my humidor upstairs to the bedroom so i can sleep knowning that they are safe and stay a little warmer over night.
This is perfectly normal, right???

I can't say I have used the wife's best towels to cover my humidor Dave.
Seeing as how I usually go to bed first,I don't think it would be in my best interest

Welcome, Dave! :biggrin1:
good to have you here...
Don't worry! It is normal to become a bit obsessed with your gars. We all do.
I wouldn't stress too much over them. As long as you maintain proper humidity levels, and prevent vast fluctuation in temps, you should be fine.

Hi Dave,
I went through the same thing as you, it seems you never have enough room to store cigars. Welcom to the forum.

Dam, i didn't realise so many of you where so close, I'm in Gosport actually but normally you say Gosport and and people respond where is that, say Portsmouth and everyone goes ahhhhh failed football team lol. Now i just have to resist the urge to herf too often. How often is too often btw?
Snooky - you probably have everything planned but the better half has just been told about citybreak.co.uk, good prices for a hotel and flight all thrown in. She is looking for a romantic weekend away, i'm sure i could squeeze in a nice meal between cigar shopping lol. I visited a few years ago with work and ended up buying cigarette at fantastic prices. I've been online checking prices and UK prices seem to be 200-300% above the Gib prices so i guess it is only polite to buy 2-3 times as many i guess.
jpmoore - I'm liking the idea of poker, not played much texas 5 cards stud but an excuse to smoke cigars is always good to keep in the back pocket, plus beginners luck and fine cigars make good company i hope. In the summer, or as soon as it gets warm, i plan on building my own shed to make best use of a strange shaped end of the garden. I'm thinking more along the lines of a timber cabin, wiring it up for electricity and turning it into a cigar smokers paradise. At least that is the plan, something definatley with heating for when the weather gets cold again.

Funny you should say that. I have a little beer fridge similar to the one below that i'm thinking of using as a cigar box humidor. I've taken the wire shelf out and i think cigar boxes staked up in front of the glass will look very smart with the humidification devices hidden and sat at the back on the shelf above the compressor motor. I just can't decide to line the inside with ideally spanish cedar (hard to find), some other sheeting like some nice plywood or just leave it bare, decisions decisions. Then i'll just have to decide where it is going to reside so that i can look at my beautiful cigars through the glass.http://www.ukcigarforums.com/picture.php?albumid=181&pictureid=1703

Welcome onboard Dave:smile:. Sounds like you have been well & truely bitten by the bug. Spent yrs based at RNH Haslar (certianly felt like yrs anyway) & HMS Nelson as well as passing through on ships so know Pompey well. It's been 20yrs now but I can't think off hand of any pubs with suitable grds to be considered Cigar friendly these day, in the city/dockarea. Any recommendations (besides wedding venues:rolleyes:).

I've not come across any, my local pub "The Foresters" has a small beer garden but I wouldn't call it cigar friendly, i'm more of a cycle track taking the dog for a walk at night enjoying a cigar kind of guy myself.

See your actually living in 'Gods Port', apart from the RNH,:stickyman: I lived 'ashore' in various places, inc. my first house, 44 Teignmouth Rd, a one bedroom place on the old railway line that I can't remember of the St name for & 4 Moruant Close, down by Priddy's Hard:captain: & the Jolly Roger. Used to  & smoke in there Sunday afternoons, ahh those old single, pre-ban days:biggrin1:

Cigar-aficionado, dont tell me things like that. I'd love to but i think she who must be obeyed might actually kill me. I've promised to take her for a long weekend around summer to Gibraltar and i don't think she would appreciate me disappearing off on my own. She can't make the 19th otherwise i'd be there. Remember me for the next time.
