Looks:
There is something about the double band on such a small cigar in addition to the beautifully dark wrapper that really gets me. For me there is no better looking cigar 5/5

Construction:
Long ash, in general very good draw. The one I smoked tonight was ever so slightly too tight. 4.5/5

Flavour:
This is where I am most impressed. Take your Mag 46 then add a tad extra subtle spiciness and kick to it and you have your 48. A lover of the 46, this brings the Upmann to a whole new level for me. For those who do not know Upmann, my description would be a light/medium cigar with cocoa flavours and some papery/toasty flavour vearing to leather and espresso later on. Take that, add a bit of extra oriental spiciness and nicotine kick and you have the 48. 4.5/5

Overall:
If you didn't notice by now, I dig this cigar. Its a bit small, but unlike most cigars, from my point of view, I can smoke it right till I burn my finger tips. If you are in search of a short 30-40 min smoke, I do not think you can do better. If I had the money, I'd buy 3-4 boxes. 4.5/5

Nice to see a good Upmann review there Daize, :hail: don't often hear people discussing this marque. Drowned out by the loud Cohiba/Partgas crowd :( :biggrin1:

Nice review Daize. I love the look of this cigar too.

I'm going to have to get my hands on one or two of these to try, you describe some of my favourite flavours in this one. I've enjoyed the other Uppmanns which I've tried, so this has just leapfrogged to the top of my wish list. :849:

Would anyone be interested in a split on these (or 'part' split) - Daize's review has made me decide that I need to bite the bullet on this one...

I'd have a little dabble on these with you...the light/medium aspect has put me off buying a whole box but I certainly feel like I need to try them.

I've got a few that are still resting. The first I tried straight away and I feel I didn't get the full picture. A few more months and I'll try again.

What a great little review, thank you! Ironically your review just motivated me to order the magnum 46 and 50... I'll check out the 48 later...

"...What an outstanding cigar! Okay it is quite short, though respectively thick. The presentation is wonderful with a beautiful dark wrapper, minimal veins, and a double banding. As for the taste and aroma? Wow! Compared with a lot of non-Cubans I've smoked, this stick has a very deep and wide range of flavours emanating from the first 1/3. A rich well of roasted nutty flavours, with spice and pepper. Kind of similar to the roasted aroma you get from cooked nuts during Christmas time! It even had a hint of something sweet towards the final 1/3. You can definitely tell that the tobacco in this cigar has been well aged and well selected! A very modestly sized cigar that packs a big punch! Taste is surprisingly different when compared with the Magnum 46 and 50, with no evidence of the creaminess found. Nonetheless, the deep roasted taste of nuts, spice and coffee just renders this stick something synonymous to a single measure of fine cognac! Beautiful indeed!..."
