Just enjoying a nice hot chocolate with a little (okay a lot) whiskey in it as i smoke a NUB by an open fire outside in the garden. The chocolate really seems to be complementing the cigar very well and adding a nice subtle aftertaste to the smoking experience. I'm just having some good old Cadbury hot chocolate made with warm milk and sugar. Just curious if anyone else likes hot chocolate with a cigar on a chilling evening and if anyone can recommend some nicer choices/brands. It's been ages since i've have a hot chocolate and the child hood memories are just flooding back.

hello jibjob,
you mentioned cadbury's........what about the cadbury's bourneville hot choclolate? you can get it everywhere, from supermarkets like tesco and asda to petrol stations!!!! you can't miss it, it comes in a red can!!!! it's got a nice, bitter kick to it........it pairs up well with most cubans!!!!

personally, when i'm having a cigar, i always have a piece of dark chocolate with it, mainly cadbury's bourneville or lindt 90%!!! so, in my opinion, the darker and bitter, the better.........

hope this helps,

Try Whitards, they do some nice combinations like white choc and caramel choc. Like the one you had at mine last week.

I hear we Americans have inferior product when it comes to chocolate, unless we buy the upscale stuff. I'll have to try this combo some time.

Talking of hot chocolate, try a little finely ground chilli powder in there. The Aztecs used this brew, back in the day. Admittedly, it won't be to everyone's taste, but it is a very palatable combination. It'd be interesting to see how this paired up with a cigar.

Not tried it with a cigar, but the Suchard hot choc from the machine in work is very good IMO.

You'd probably love this then:

Take a square of good 70% or higher cocoa chocolate bar.
Drizzle lightly with Extra Virgin olive oil.
Put a single, large Maldon Sea Salt flake on top.

Eat and expect the unexpected.

My preference for hot chcooy.

1-2 teaspoons of Green and Blacks Coca powder (or any other high quality coca) NB - not the 'hot chocolate' powder
1-2 teaspoons of dark muscavado sugar
1 teaspoon of Ammeretto (or whisky/rum)
Milk

Put the coca, sugar, booze and a small splash of the milk in the cup and microwave for about 15-20 seconds. Watch it very closely and as soon as it begins to bubble pop the door. Whisk/stir this mixture so it is totally smooth. should be dark and glossy.

Pour in your heated milk and mix (if you have the facility foam the milk with an espresso machine to a latte type consistency)

This sounds like a lot of work but it is not. Takes about 3 mins and makes a stunning hot choc. Adjust the coca/sugar/alcohol mix to taste.

For people without a latte facility, save a 1-pint empty plastic milk bottle. Pour hot milk into it and give it a good shake for a minute. Et voila!

Got some Spanish extra thick hot chocolate from TESCO at the weekend after you mentioned it and thought i'd try it. Thick as a milkshake from mcdonalds and it seemed to get thicker as it cooled. It was very very good but it was very heavy. I'm going to make small cups of it in future rather than my huge mug i made lol

We do something similar, we use hersheys chocolate syrup, a good glug of smuckers caramel syrup, 2 tablespoons of fluff marshmallow , bang It in the microwave, a good few stirs then top with squirty cream , we have a chocolate and vanilla grinder, like one of those sea salt ready filled grinders you get, a good grind of that on top, then an oreo straw biscuit pushed through and to top it off, a mini marshmallow toasted with my butane lighter

The kids go mad for them :)

the best fortification to a hot chocolate that I have had is Stroh Austrian "Rum". It tastes like drinking an alcoholic rum and raisin chocolate milk shake with a major kick. Yum.

Usually hard to get in the UK, we bring back loads each year from the states. You can get FLuff from supermarkets, the other stuff I have seen in selfridges, or ebay, a few sellers who I use on there stock these.

That's pretty much it mate, the hersheys we get in the bottle, same with the smuckers but the jars should be fine, just choose a flavour you like. The grinder looks cool, the on I have is choc and vanilla crystals, again choose any flavour that you fancy. Fluff is great, we get the giant tubs, but a jar is plenty for you to try. Only thing I didn't see were the Oreo biscuit straws, they melt away as you drink through them :)

Lol, I thought the betty crocker icecream toppings were in grinder form. You could just use shaved chocolate to top it

Another taste sensation (I discovered this by accident yesterday):

When you next go to the cinema, go to the pick 'n' mix and get some white chocolate mice. Also buy some salty popcorn. Place a handful or two of the popcorn on top of the mice in the pick 'n' mix carton and eat all the popcorn. Then eat a mouse.

OMG!

Repeat.
