I went to this shop in St James for the first time today and can thoroughly recommend them. The staff were very friendly and treated me well without being the least bit snooty which I find some places can be. There was also an obvious knowledge of the products unlike the cigar shop in Soho where every time I have been in they don?t seem to know their stuff!

I adore the place and have smoked a good number of cigars over the years in the shop itself.

I haven't been since the smoking ban so don't know if indoor smoking is over there. I used to like the fact that most of the staff walked around with a fat cigar on the go.

The smell, when you came in off the street, was an erotic delight.

well the smell is still there, so much so I had to comment to the sales man, he said hes used to it, I didnt see the smoking area but I think there is still one in there as I read about the place in the local paper recently. Just a shame theres not many pubs in the area that have an outdoor area to have a smoke in.

It's a very 'democratic' place. They are interested in people who love cigars and will give them time.

St James is pretty bourgeois, but there are always normal (lol) folk in there and not exclusively the minor aristocracy!

I drop into Smith and Sons in the Charing Cross Road where they have great Cubans if I arrive in London unloaded. They are very convivial in that shop, I find.

I love my gentlemanly cigar-puffing days on my tod in London. I used to take the train up from Kent more often in years gone by. Very civilised times all round, and always great to smoke a good cigar around a city.

Paris is a wonderful smoke-walk city, I think.

I have smoked in the shop since the ban, but probably a year ago now, so may have stopped this - they opened a small room downstairs when they upgraded the humidor, but I have smoked in the shop itself - a great selection, a nice guys.

:cowboyic9:I visited JJ Fox only once while in London in 2002.

Fantastic experience! :congrats:

I purchased a special box of ten Monty No. 4s which sported a second red band celebrating the Queens Golden Jubilee. I selected one to smoke immediately. The Gent that sold me the box asked for my torch lighter and did me the pleasure of lighting my puro for me. Very Classy! :thumb:

I have copied this method of lighting a cigar ever since (torching the foot and blowing on it until it shows a nice, even glow). :41:

An unforgettable experience that I've shared many times with my fellow cigar mates.:listen:

I agree, Robusto - Paris is a wonderful place to enjoy a smoke while site seeing. But my favorite is Venice, where I discovered the Bolivar Bonita. Excellent with a nice cup of Italian coffee. I've been a big fan of the bonita ever since. :smoke:
