I love coffee and cigars, but it is not often people choose to pair the two together; at least in terms of the comments made in discussions about cigars and pairings.:ranger: I want to know more about good coffee/cigar pairings

However, coffee and cigarettes are always discussed as going together so well.:smokin:

I hate cigarettes. The tobacco is shite.

I love cigars though. And coffee. :41:

What are some good coffee and cigar pairings?:coffeepaper: How about a Bolivar Belicoso Fino with a good cup of Columbian brew. I take it black...

I really enjoy the Nespresso Ristretto served as an espresso with any cigar really. I always find the taste of the cigar is really enhanced with a coffee.

I have my first Java chip frappe from starbucks on sunday, with a Monte Sublime, again my first, the two went very well together.

Even drinking instant, which i know isnt great but i dont always have the time to make real, i find enchances almost any cigar. One pairing i have found that works really well is the Nespresso Roma served as an espresso with a Nub cameroon.

I think you'd be surprised how many people think that coffee is the perfect accompaniment to a cigar.

I'm not a coffee fan but I always have tea with cigars. I don't think cigars and any kind of alcohol go together particularly well at all. When Nic, Bryan and myself had a day out doing nothing but cigars I think we got through enough tea to drown an elephant.

That's funny because I have had tea with cigars on a number of occasions and for some reason I always feel as satisfied as I do when pairing with coffee!

But the best cigar experiences I have are exclusively with scotch. That trumps every beverage when smoking.

These are great suggestions. I am going to try some this summer...

I find that the stronger cigars go excellently with a good cup of coffee. I'll often have a Bolivar or Partagas with an espresso or French press of a fairly strong (dark roast) bean.

On the other hand, the lighter or more complex cigars can be overwhelmed. So the Trinidads and HdM's seem to be muffled by the coffee flavors and get lost in the mix.

The H. Upmann would go well with a medium bodied coffee. But, all in all, I'd call cigars and coffee a dynamic duo.

Coffee for me certainly enhances the cigar taste, aroma and overall experience. A freshly grounded Columbian or Kenyan goes pretty well with a good cigar. I think it is because of the similarities in their taste. They just compliment each other.

I agree about the alcohol as it can dumb down the palette, though it would depend on the alcohol! A nice single malt can do wonders for one's tongue. :cowboyic9:

9 times out of 10 I'll drink coffee with my cigar, over the last year I seemed to have slowed down on the booze and hardly touch it now.
As I love a cup of good coffee it kind of suits me. Although I do wonder sometimes what I might be missing with wines or spirits.

There's not much I like better than a good meal followed by a cafetiere of Columbian coffee and a cigar. The world definetely recedes into the distance.

I love a mug of black Lintong Java (two sweeteners) with a good cigar. It's like they are made for each other!

The far distance ! It just seems to magically disappear for the time I pair the two together.

Interesting to read different botl's views on what they prefer to drink with a cigar, but also what they prefer not to drink.

I quite enjoy a glass or two of strong red wine with a cigar, usually from the new World such as a South African Pinotage or Pinot Noir. I find the richness of the grape variety from SA compliments a complex cigar.

On the flip side of things, I also like a Diet Pepsi with a cigar, not exactly sure why???

I do not drink coffee so that rules that out, but never tried having a tea at the same time, will need to give it a bash and see how it is.

I've got a few favourite drinks (http://fistload.co.uk/blog/cigar-drink-pairings/) that I find go with certain cigars, but I've not tried coffee with it yet. I've only got a percolator and that makes it too strong to go with a cigar I think.

If I'm having to stay up late, I love a good Monte 2 or Espi with a double espresso sweetened with a a good dash of Havana Club. Absolute heaven

The coffee and rum is very more'ish, so don't try this if you plan on sleeping withing the next 12 hours :)

A cup of Cafe Bustelo with a CC, goes a long way.

The coffe and cigar theme continues here too.

Last year, whilst over in the motherland, I bought a few packs of Cubita coffee. Getting home, I thought it was a tad mild compared to more stronger brews I was used to. However, it did compliment a cigar nicely looking back. It isn't a potent brew by any means, but one worth trying.

Alternatively, one could purchase the Cohiba coffee at three times the price:der::smile:

Worth considering that different coffee's impact ones taste buds in different ways. For instance a thick syrupy espresso will coat your taste receptors for up to 20 mins muting your taste of a nice smoke.

A well made fruity, sweet filter/drip coffee can be magical with a smoke.

With coffee it is easy to confuse burnt for body. In other words most commercial beans would be considered burnt/over-roasted by aficionado's. I suspect when people talk about 'lighter' beans they are probably just right. If the bean is lighter in colour grind a little finer to get a slightly longer brew process and find the balance. Also the lighter the bean the hotter the brew temp so for a really dark oily bean you want 92 is degC but for a light bean 94-5ish is going to taste better. Keep in mind that freshly brewed coffee should never taste bitter.

This is really interesting. What would you pair with a Juan Lopez #2?

Excellent idea...

Maybe members can list what coffees they like to pair with certain cigars...!?!

Agree with most places confusing body for that burnt taste. Nearly every main chain does that and I hate it. I don't like the americano way of brewing. That burnt coffee taste is a million miles away from a fruity coffee prepared well in cafetiere or filter.
That's why I'm very careful pairing coffee to cigar.
There's a Mexican high roast i've been really liking from algerian coffee with cigars as it has all the texture and body of a high roast without overpowering flavour. I tend to go for full bodied coffee and high roast and find it quite hard pairing with cigars because of that.

Very much looking for recommendation of good single origin light to medium coffees!

I love a strong cup of real (not instant) coffee with a cigar...plain and simple! My palate can't discern different types of coffee...I just like what I like
Tea just doesn't work for me with a cigar

I'm sorry that I can't join this debate as I stopped drinking coffee almost twenty years ago. I loved the taste and still love the smell.

I have tea now. I had a master blender mix me a blend to resemble the taste of an Islay malt. That goes well with cigars.

BTW There is a great Jim Jarmusch film called Coffee and Cigarettes. Roberto Benigni is in it. Best scene: Bill Murray with the RZA and the GZA from Wu Tang. No cigars though.

Tea that tastes like scotch? Do you still drink it hot?

I'd love to try it if you have more. :cowboyic9:

Any professionally roasted (fresh 4-10 days post roast) single-origin south American made with a filter or drip should be great.

the reality is you can not really generalise 'Brazilian' or 'Columbian' coffee any more than you can describe wine as 'French'. find a good specialist retailer and they will guide you.

a couple of great UK specialists:

Well I like coffee and cigars too - but the ground 'proper' coffee rather than instant (made in a battered old Italian moka style stove top maker). And while none of us like to think about the health risks of cigars it would seem from a recent study that a coffee and cigar combo is more perfect than just the taste compliment:
