Sticking to a particular cigar

Good evening all,when I started smoking cigars a few months ago my aim was to do a little research and a lot of experimentation to find a cigar that suited me, then just buy that particular smoke until the day I went to Havana heaven.but now I'm starting to think that's not going to happen, half the enjoyment seems to be the variety,reading your wise words then managing to secure a few here and there in the for sale section and comparing notes.

So I was just wondering do any of you find your version of excellence and stick to it?

Still at that experimental stage. At one point I thought I may stick to the Magnum 46, but I have found other cigars that I like even more :confused:. The fruity succulence of the Monte 2, the creamy tang of the 46 and 50, the roasted nutty punch of the 48, the delicate macadamia palpation of the Trinidad robusto, the smooth and aged blend of the BHK 52, the peppery roasted caramel burst of the RP 1990 and decade, the amazingly creamy treat of the Grand Habano CT... the list just goes on... :der:

So no, I find my version of excellence, but find it hard to stick to it. :(

For me it would be nigh on impossible to stick to one choice of cigar...

You're right, it's not going to happen, and yes, having a wide choice is half the fun…
Short cigars, big cigars, summer cigars, winter cigars, yard cigars, week-end cigars, etc.: soon you will want to have on hand 10, then 20, then [insert insane amount] references…

I thought as much really. Now buying a box at my time of financial life seems foolish. So I'm quite happy to keep picking up three's and fives off here. Just glad I stumbled across the site during a google search :)

Variety is the spice of life, I have cigars for different things. For example I wouldnt smoke a monte no2 while I was out doing the garden. I would have something like a rocky vintage 1990.
or if I was washing the car something else. If I've got time and the kids are out and the house is quite I might go for a p2.
So dont stick to just one.
Also dont forget the NC brands, there are loads and half the fun is going round trying them. You dont need to buy a box at a time either unless you have a big place to store them or you've won the lottery.

Wise words boss, no lottery win as yet and with my new found mould problem I'm on my second cc in two hours. In fact I thought I may now go for several small humi's so if this mould reoccurs it won't affect my whole supply .

As for the nc scene I've been enjoying that thoroughly thanks to one esteemed member :)

Hi, Stubborn Grumpy Old Bastard here. Been smoking cigars now for about 10 years, 7 of these in a more discerning way than my original state of going through the different supermarket crap.
Until joining here, I smoked almost exclusively CC's and had probably around 10 that I favoured. These all range in size, flavour etc and I would choose which one depending on circumstances. Since becoming a UKCF member I've been fortunate enough to try a large number of NC's and had hoped, from a financial point, to find a number to add to my repertoire. Sadly I'm spoilt in my tastes by too many years of CC's and have only found 2 or 3 NC's that I really like.
I enjoy my smoke but, as I've said on here before, feel short changed if I smoke one I don't enjoy.
For this reason I am seriously considering sticking to my favourite CC's with the odd other CC thrown in now and again, and the 2 or 3 NC's I have enjoyed so far.
The NC market in particular, is vast but I'm too set in my ways and at the risk of missing out think I will now stick to what I know and be sure (the occasional bad 'un aside) that I enjoy each and every one. Probably just that I'm too tight to experiment any more as I object to paying for something I don't enjoy.

Different cigars for different situations. Size, strength, matching with drinks, the weather, how much I'm prepared to concentrate on the flavour, etc. all have a place in my choice of cigar.

I would not be able to choose just one cigar. Ever.
There are so many different ones for different situations.
For when I go to the drive in's, I take Youngs double chocolate stout and a CAO Mx2.
drinking coffee (like I am now) I like Monty 5's and others of similar profiles.
In the garden, I'll grab some custom rollled cigars from the Outcast forum, or RP Sungrown or the like.
Partying or sitting outside a pub, it will be a Bolivar or something of the like.

Its all well and good to find a cigar that you love, and stock up on that but please dont limit yourself to that one brand. Always keep others on hand.

It would be like eating oats for breakfast and pasta for dinner for the rest of your life.

Like many things in life Nell, if you just want A cigar then one size and one brand may do , but when you love cigars that is not enough . Same may be with cars and women , though not with football . Perhaps if you ask the forum what thier last cigar would be, might be more interesting.

I have two or three go-to cigars...JL#2, Siglo VI and Trini Reyes and they're chosen based on time available but experimentation is the key. Even though I absolutely love the JL#2 and if forced at gunpoint to choose it for the rest of my life, I would....I'd be happy but would miss all the trials and tribulations of finding something new....imagine never trying a MC Sublimes.....:(

i love trying out new cigars and there are so many to choose from i never get bored. I probably have about 20 different brands within my humi and some days i just cant find anything that i fancy. I get all excited and take a trip out to my local cigar shop and search for something new that takes my fancy! I have found some of my most enjoyable cigars from recommendations in the shop and blind tastings
