They look nice, am I correct in saying that the ring guage of the cigars is a 42???
Any idea about cost and where they'll be available from?

From what I heard, about 260-280 euros in Germany (LCDHs), surely more in the UK.
Some other jars were released these days: a RyJ with 25 Short Churchills (€270), a Montecristo with 25 Edmundos (€310) and a "Orchant&Wolters" Cohiba jar with 25 Siglo VI at… 660Euros.

Something to do with Mitch?
Is it me or Have Habanos SA found a new marketing vehicle?
Do jars such as these need to be stored in a humidor or do they act as one themselves?

No, you must put them in the humidor.
Actually it is strongly recommended to NOT use (i.e activate) the integrated humidifier when there is one (located in the lid).
