Guys, even though I've technically stopped smoking cigarettes, I still inhale my cigar first thing in the morning and it's ripping my chest apart!
I'm now looking for a MILD morning cigar that still has a bit of taste. Doesn't have to be a CC, just mild with taste. To that end, has anybody ever tried Backwoods? Are they any good?

Blimey you might as well start smoking cigarettes again! Cigars are fantastic but inhaling even just one modestly sized one...? Thats like the equivalent to a whole pack of 20 Marlboroughs! :cowboyic9:

I'd have to agree with rO on that Celsis .... the inhaling isn't good morning or anytime. Backwoods I don't know about .... but wouldn't a Cuban mini or Club be better?

Na, it's purely a psychological thing in the morning. I guess it's because I smoked ciggies gor about 43 years and my heart needs the nicotine kick in the morning to start up again. Don't like minis, I'm afraid. I don't even inhale during the day, just the first in the morning and I don't wanna go back to fags as a) can't afford em and b) if they're in the house, I'll smoke em!
What a sorry twerp I am!

......... forgive me for stating the obvious, but......
JUST DON'T INHALE!!!!!
it's the ultimate 'no no' of cigar smoking, as you well know being one of the more (forgive the expression) seasoned cigar smokers round these parts!!! you'd be much better off with cigarettes if you insist on inhaling your smoke!!!
sorry if i sound like a dick mate, you see...... i came to this having never smoked cigarettes (well, i used to smoke the, ahem, 'exotic' kind when i was at art college and care free!!! the novelty soon wore off cos i could get nothing done, lol)!!!! i have inhaled cigar smoke once or twice by mistake, and it was f**king hell man!!!! painful, nauseating..... ughhh!!! most unpleasant!!!
all the best mate,

Just a suggestion, and willpower is needed, BUT-why don't you have one fag first thing and then put the packet away 'til the next morning.
Or am I being hopelessly optomistic here?

Just see if you can try not inhaling one day. Then maybe the next. I reckon it's a psychological thing rather than anything else, as you're still getting the nicotine. You'll be surprised how much better you'll feel for not inhaling, if you manage a week.
I realise this isn't what you asked though sorry. It's difficult to know what would be mild cigar to inhale, as I don't!

Not sure I would want to inhale an entire cigar, but if you must, just about any Connecticut shade wrapper should be mild.

I'm with everyone else on this matter - you may be right that your body wants a nicotine fix in the mornings after 43 years of smoking, but you'd be better off seeking other avenues for this. On an aside I remember giving up coffee for lent. I got the most horrendous headaches - my body's way of telling me it was missing caffeine.
The inhalation part is more than likely a mix of psychological and an unconsious, almost reflex action. After 43 years, your mind and your muscles are used to inhaling the smoke, and that's the part that resistant to change. In other words, you're probably not inhaling for the extra nicotine, you're inhaling because it's a conditioned behaviour.
I'd say there are two ways to deal with this is. You could make graded changes in your habit. Dave's right, alternately inhaling and not inhaling would be helpful. It's about regaining control of your behaviour from your habit.
Alternatively, you could keep your current behaviour (inhaling) but replace the object in your hand. For example, you could buy one of those nicorette inhaler things - sort of a plastic tube that you suck on and it gives you a nicotine fix. Or you could fake smoke - take a pen, suck on it an then inhale fresh air. You'd be surprised how effective this can be. After a while, when the alternative object takes hold, you can phase it out.
Again, sorry, this isn't what you asked in your OP, but I just like giving advice ;) If you're particularly keen on sticking with inhaling cigars, then I seem to recall a Cafe Creme thread around here somewhere. Perhaps they could be an alternative to fags?

As far as I am aware, not inhaling cigar smoke does not mean you don't get a nicotine fix. The below is a quote from a study done by the US department of health in 1998.
While almost all cigarette smokers inhale, the majority of cigar smokers do not. This may be due to differences in the pH of the smoke produced by these two products. Cigar smoke contains a substantial fraction of its nicotine as free nicotine, which can be readily absorbed across the oral mucosa. In contrast, cigarette smoke is more acidic, and the protonated form of nicotine it contains is much less readily absorbed by the oral mucosa. As a result, cigarette smokers must inhale to get their desired quantity of nicotine, whereas cigar smokers can ingest sufficient quantities of nicotine without inhaling.
So you really shouldn't need to inhale, you could even look for a stronger cigar to smoke in the morning to give you a bigger "hit" without the need to inhale.

Got a link for that Styler?
Have you considered snuff? It won't be quite as quick a rush as inhaling but may do the job.

Hi Mike,
get some KDT cadets from Fonseca or some Vegeueros Soane, or some Rafael Gonzalez Petit Coronas. Or if possible grab some Macanudo Portofinos or even the Hampton Courts. Good easy going cigars.
