Oliva Serie O Torpedo

I really enjoy the Oliva line of cigars and ive had this sat in the humi for over a year now, so last night i decided to light the bugger.

Now this is supposed to be the budget version of the series, it certainly didnt feel that way.


Oliva Serie O

Wrapper - Sun Grown Habano

Filler - Nicaraguan Habano

Binder - Nicaraguan Habano

Torpedo

The cigar is very well made, one vein running from top to bottom, but otherwise perfect. The colour is a chocolate brown, and the cigar still had some oil on the wrapper. The burn was perfect along the entire cigar, no touching up needed. It lasted just under an hour.


The prelight draw was full of rich tobacco flavour and a slight hint of pepper.


Upon lighting it was a bitter taste for the first 3 or 4 minutes, i was getting concerned at this point, but it soon dissapered to the most stunning chocolate and vanilla taste ive ever had. This is something i really didnt expect , i havent had this kind of flavour profile from a cigar before, and it really took me by surprise.

This flavour continued throught the entire cigar, but the chocolate was replaced by coffee, then tobacco, then spice, but always with that vanilla undertone.

I dont know if this was due to ageing, or if this is what they are like anyway, but this was truly one of the best 50 minutes ive spent.

These are very well priced cigars, and i would certainly buy a box.

Hehe, great colour isnt it. I was reading Olivas website, they recomend storing at 70 to 78% humidity to preserve the oils, havent heard that before.

Nice review Lee. Oliva certainly have a loyal following - and the more I read about them and smoke them I start to understand why. That particular one sounds like it was really interesting to smoke. I like the big flavours that you seem to get out of Olivas.

Great review Lee, I've got one from my US trip in the new humi will give it the year before smoking that one. Had a couple of O serise now and been pleased with them both times. The robusto was similar in that it was bitter to start with but then turned in to a great smoke. :smoke:

While I still have a rather uneducated palate when it comes to ciagrs Oliva quickly became my favourite brand when I started smoking them. I've tried most of the Serie O and G sizes and enjoyed them all. When I've got a little more cash I'll have to get hold of some Serie V to try :smoke:

The 78 is a little over the top . However at 70% I would drybox for a day and then set the bitch on fire.

Funny guy lol, it doesnt come off with soap, we use a chemical cleaner but it takes layers of skin off, and my hands are too big for latex gloves lol. My fingers are about 70 ring gauge lol.

Good review Lee & I agree that at the price point these sell at they are a very good cigar. 78%RH.....WTF? I think it would explode when you light it.
