View Full Version : Where did your username come from?

daverave999

Some of them are obvious, but some intrigue me.

Mine stems from 1997 (I think) when I signed up for my hotmail account and was astounded to discover that I was not the first daverave on the internet. Rather than daverave138 or something equally unmemorable, I went with 999.

So, what about yours?

TJCoro
23-02-2009, 10:25 PM
:whistle:TJCoro IS my name.

 Are you saying Daverave999 is not yours?? :hmmmm:

Well blow me down, mates:willy:

Morning guys,

My username emeraldisle ties in with what people describe Ireland to be ie green like an emerald and isle as in island. Hope that clears up my user name choice.

However these days people are not going green with admiration rather red with rage if you notice the strikes in Dublin lets say.

My studio nickname in the states was Drew (I'm actually an Andrew and most call me Andy) and because of my cigar love it ended up being drewmidor (you see what they did there? very clever)... and then it became drewmidorn... but i don't know why. lol

My main squeeze still calls me Drew.

"Main squeeze" I love it.

I was extremely un-inspired and just as my parents (both) left me.

Groucho, as you may recall, hosted a quiz show named "You Bet Your Life" in the heyday of television. It wasn't much of a quiz show and mainly showcased his impromptu comedic brilliancy. He would bring in a pair of contestants and ask them a series of ridiculously easy questions after chatting with them for a bit. This was in the days of live television, mind you.

A tenny rate, he was chatting up an old farm boy, found out he was married, asked about children. The old boy replied he had 17 of them (or somesuch ridiculously large number).

Groucho asks him, "Why do you have so many children?"

To which the old farmer replies, "Well, Groucho, I love my wife."

Without missing a beat, Groucho comes back with "Well, I love my cigar but I take it out of my mouth once in a while."

Mine is a take on the Royal Navy slang for a submariner - a 'sludge mariner' because apparently we never wash! I just trimmed it down to 'Sludgie'. The Mr Ben picture that I normally have on my avatar is due to my efforts to be a dapper chap....just changed it to a picture of me though...doh!

SmokeyDave
19-02-2012, 07:48 PM
For the years I smoked cigars out and about (in the days when you could still smoke indoors) I was the only one who loved a cigar. Due to the voluminous smoke that collected when puffing in the pub/clubs my friends took to calling me Smokey, hence SmokeyDave.

I have thought about changing it though, as there can be confusion with member SmokeyMo who is Mitch at CGars.

Hmmm, a friend of mine used to be in a band and I'd often go and watch them, one night at a particular gig the crowd were a little quiet, I was very drunk and I was bouncing around at the front in my white shorts and shirt, i'm 6'4 and 19 stone and generally look pretty beefy so the lead singer after the set announced thanks to everyone for coming especially the Yeti at the front. Later as we were enjoying a couple of beers one of the patrons started on the lead singer and was being pretty discusting towards her, after various insults and her declining his "advances" he spat in her face, at this point I punched him out. The bouncers rushed in and one of them looked at me while picking the piece of garbage off the floor and just said "Bad Yeti!" We all laughed and it stuck. :biggrin1:

Spoony is my nickname. It was given to me by my idiot mates over 10 years ago. I don't remember why but at the time i hated it. (Cos they said it in a high pitched lisped voice.) Being the understanding chaps they are, when they knew i hated it called me it constantly so it stuck. Now that they've dropped the high pitched lisp I actually quite like it.

(Ramon Allones) Small Club Corona: in France this cigar is called "small club". French rarely use acronyms, so it's never mentionned as "RASCC" like it is on american forums.
For years this cigar was one of my favorites, but I must say its quality seems in decline since 2007 - or maybe my taste is changing, it has happened before…
