Hi, I have a box of Upmann No.3 cigars which i inherited from my Grandad.
They have 2 labels on them, the upper most one is the H UPMANN S.S label and the one underneath is a little band which in red ink says menendes Garcia Amistad.

Does anyone know where I can get the cigars checked out ? They must be at least 30 years old, probably more but my boyfriend smoked one recently and said it seemed ok, no foil protection though.

I thought they may be collectable?

There are 9 left in the original box.

Any clues?
Thanks

Could post the picture here, of the box, and contents.
If they've not been stored correctly this may devalue them somewhat...

Hola upmann no3, :yo:

Wow. What luck to stumble onto 30 year old puros. A real find!:top:

To follow up on Deano's comment. If they were properly stored over the years, well done. If not, it may be possible to restore them, unless the oils have completely dried up. But since your BF already tried one and said it was fine, you are probably OK. Just continue to store them in a well balanced humidor.

:bandit: Names TJCoro, at your service.

Hello NICWING DEANO TJCORO and thanks for your replies.

I cannot attach the pics here as not got them online to upload from. will send to NICWING as address supplied.

My B/F is no connoisseur but it smoked pretty steadily and he got through it in a few days. Only reason for smoking it - already trimmed and ready to smoke :smoke:

The inner label says in black (bank note style)

REPUBLICA DE CUBA

IMPUESTO DEL EMPRESTITO $35,000,000
DECRETO 3220 DIC 26 1939
TABACOS
SERIE B

This is overwritten with

MENENDEZ GARCIA & CIA LTD
AMISTRADT HABANA

Cheers

:confused:Let me see if I got this straight....your BF took 3 days to smoke a single puro? And if true, he had no complaints?:vollkommenauf: WOW!

Respectively, I must agree with your comment, a connoisseur he is not.

:bandit:Names TJ, TJCoro, and I never smoke half now and half later.:nono:

OK here is the word from one of the UK (if not the world) experts on Cuban Cigars and their bands:

These look genuine, although they are nearer 50 years old than 30. The only odd thing is that the box does not have a warranty seal on it.

However the personalized band may explain this if the initials S.S. belong to the writer’s grand father. They were probably made up as a special gift by the factory in which case they could have omitted the seal.

Everything else is correct.<U1:p</U1:p<O:p</O:p

<U1:pIf you want a valuation for sale I suggest you approach Dunhill in London who may be interested. Let me know if you need contact details.</U1:p

:listen: So what you are saying Mr. Nicwing, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that the puros and Sir Robusto are the same age - 50 years.

:afraid:Wow!!! That is old!:rip:

Careful TJ, Fifty is a very fine age, and Fity One is even better (or so my wife tells me)
Here are a couple of the pics:

The initials S.S are not my Grandads but he was given them by the wife of Sir Stewart Duke-Elder when he died so they could have been made especially for him.

Thanks for putting the pics up nicwing and thanks for your help.

They might have become poisonous due to their age. If you like, send them to me and I'll smoke one to test them for you:41:
