'evening all

I'm doing a bit of research for a University project in to how cigar smokers in the UK have been affected by the smoking ban - I'm a mature student at Nottingham Trent University studying Product Design - we have to choose a problem, research it, create a design brief and then maybe sometime in the future design a solution!

The fact that I have to stand outside anywhere other than my own home to attempt to enjoy a cigar is a problem that I felt needed addressing.

If you can find five minutes to complete a short questionnaire I would be very grateful.

The survey is here -

Thanks to Deano for allowing me to post this.

Cheers
Dom

Coolio. I studied Industrial Design just down the road at L'boro.

I have to say I started smoking cigars after the ban had come in and usually only at home, so it hasn't really affected me at all. I'll have a crack at your survey anyway, though. Always good to have more completed forms to hand-in!

Dom - is the survey restricted to Brits or can those of us living in other countries with similar smoking bans take the survey?

Oops - I thought the above post would be inserted under TJCoro's, this forum works slightly differently to one I'm used to.

TJCoro - The survey is restricted to Brits and Mexicans :)

Robusto - PM on its way.

Those who have completed the survey - Thanks very much!

Cheers

Id say we are affected more than fag smokers, purely for the fact of how long it takes to smoke a chappie. I used to smoke bud and its always been a no no in most boozers, bar the odd rebel boozer, the good old no women or kids affair. but theres not many rebel boozers standing anymore, they all seem to have transformed into mcdonalds. A form of punishment for pubs that just stray off the beaten track when it comes to the comform n comply antic rules of the modern pubs. Two of the best pubs round by me are now macky drive by's. If you can find a landlord who has a little room downstairs or in the back for a cigar den, well yours is the earth and everything thats in it, and whats more....Im slightly drunk and Im veering off the subject, sod it..UP THE VILLA

I wish I knew a rebel boozer... The world's gone totally soft and it annoys me when I think about it.

On another thread I wrote that salt isn't allowed in front of the kiddies at work.

Yesterday I heard the cooks telling a colleague that they're "not allowed" to cook with chocolate for the kiddies.

This is the Jamie Oliver / Healthy Schools initiative thing interpreted through a Mother Theresa stoned brain by wide-boys after concessions.

It's depressing.

Bryan, see how restrained I'm being this time!

Yup, Olls.
Restraint married to humour-as-escape is essential against the squits of stupidity all arouind us. It's all too depressing to contemplate.

Hello guys,

The comparison with the Uk here in Ireland is part and parcel of everyday life as smokers tend to be just getting on with it. We are in major meltdown though in the Irish Republic. I was born in the Donegal area myself. The Taoiseach aka Mr Cowan along with the finance minister Mr Lenihan are about to unveil a mini budget at the end of this month. Hence the old reliables are bound to get an increase of some sort or another.

The situation in the North a la Stormont is concerned with putting cigarettes under the counter, out of the reach of teenagers. Effectively a display issue, I am not sure how this will affect the cigar trade.
