Last night, watching Champions League on 3, I for the first time in my life (honest) drank some Brandy. Courvoisier VSOP gifted by Puff Scotty. I sipped it straight from the mini-bottle and managed to make it last the full programme. I must say I really enjoyed it, but I know nothing whatsoever about Brandy. Any recommendations anyone?

Hi Tipp,
glad you enjoyed, I used to be a brandy snob & wouldn't touch anything "not recommended".
I have a half dozen or so usuals on the bar but I rate a cheapo Soberano as a nice go to brandy. I fully realise all the purists on the forum will wince at this but each to his own.
A Sri Lankan friend of mine keeps bringing me bottles of Hanappier Finest Blended from Colombo as he flies back & forth.... I wish he wouldn't :biggrin1:.

I was recently givena bottle of Remy Martin Coeur de Cognac and I am looking forward to trying it out as I enjoy the normal VSOP bottling.
I agree that some of the deals available at the moment in the supermarkets on Cognac and Whisky are tremendous value.

I'll go with alex on this - the Hines rare VSP is fabulous for it's cost, circa £32 on thewhiskyexchange.com

Can often be found (very cheaply) in the Co-op near me in Plymouth. Just without Oz and Hugh in attendance...

I'd recommend the Sainsbury's Taste the Difference XO cognac - for a supermarket own brand it's bloody good, and £15 a bottle. That fruity aftertaste just doesn't leave your mouth :)

At the risk of being stoned by those frequent brandy drinkers, I want to pose a question within this thread about what is a good beverage to mix brandy with. I love to drink brandy with eggnog but the season of eggnog has come to an end and I want to sip on something as enjoyable. I love my scotch on the rocks, but I haven't yet developed a taste for brandy on its own so I want to blend it.

OK I had some brandy on the rocks last night. It was better than the last time and I think it's because the brand. Not too bad, but I still don't like to drink it neat.
