after receiveing a monte christo petit tubo for xmass i was hooked
so ive ordered a humidor and a small selection from cgarsltd
is my selection ok for a beginner didnt have a clue what to buy ,should have rung for advise really
heres my first humidor fillers =
1 x Carlos Torano Coronitas - Nicaraguan Selection - 5s
1 x La Rica Churchill Tubed 1s
1 x La Rica Robusto Tubed 1s
1 x Oliva Serie G - Maduro Robusto -
1 x Grand Nica Corona - Single
1 x Candlelight mini Cherry – Single mini cigarillo
1 x Cohiba Minis - 10s
1 x Cohiba Exquisitos cigars - 1s
1 x Romeo y Julieta Petit Julietas cigars - 1s
2 x El Rey del Mundo Demi Tasse cigars - 1s
1 x Guantanamera Puritos cigars - 5s

dont worry the cherry wont be going in the humidor heard its not a good idea to mix was more a novelty purchase.
any recomendations on a good starter cigar?

Looks like a fine choice to me. The early days are always the most fun and you'll smoke ones you'll love and ones you're gonna hate. (The Guantanamera suck - I hate 'em)

The Petit Julieta will probably a good starter. But jumping in by taking the name of the cigar out a hat is as good as any.

Pretty much! Try as wide a selection when you first start otherwise it's too easy to keep going back to old favourites.

Hello & welcome to the forum,
very long question really! open to all sorts of opinions. :smile:
I've only experienced CC's myself & usually larger vitolas but 7 to 10 would get my vote for starting out, you'll find a wealth of experience on this site so pile in & have some fun!

Well I disagree on the Guantanamera but it's down to personal taste, so try them all and see what you preffer. My only advice is not to do what I did with my first humidor, if there was anything wrong I seemed to have done it despite the research I did!

A: Don't wipe the inside down with a wet cloth. I know some say to do it but personally I think as a novice it can go wrong far too easily ... and it did!

B: Wait until the humidity has stabilized for say a week before putting the cigars inside.

C: Do not smoke part of a cigar then put it back in the humidor for later. Yeah I can see some serious face palming going on right now, fortunately about 30 mins later I thought about it and went to check. The humidor stank like a dirty ashtray even after that small time and I'm sure it would've ruined the cigars had it been in there for 24 hrs.

D: Get some 65% RH humidity beads and a digital hygrometer and save your blood pressure.

Now you're set to relax and smoke a cigar!

Also think about how much time you have to smoke, a good churchill will easily last me 90 mins - over 2 hours whereas a Corona is less than an hour. Most enjoy having a beverage with it so get something you like in to light up with?

Well I'm not sure if my advice is going to help but I hope you can avoid the Frank Spencer school of humidor preperation and care unlike myself!

BTW my favourite cigar ATM is an RyJ Churchill.

really? i was going to do this may have a re think

that long i thought 24hrs would do it.
will my cigars stay ok being out of a humidor for a week ?
should i keep in zip lock bags till humidor is settled?

:nerd: First of all, it is okay to lightly wipe down the sides of your fine new humidor to facilitate seasoning. The trick is to use a slightly dampened sponge or cloth and to ever so lightly moisten the inside of her....:doh: errr, I mean yer box!

:nerd: Once your unit has settled down somewhat after a few days of "seasoning," it will stablize much quicker with a selection of your fine puros inside. Otherwise, you will likely continue to see swings in the humidity until you stuff your fine box with your, ahem....goodies! *

You could argue that starting with NCs will eventually lead to a greater appreciation of CCs.

If you spend a year drinking standard, blended whisky (some of which are perfectly drinkable if not exactly remarkable) then when you start drinking the finest malts you can really appreciate the difference, possibly appreciating it more than someone who went straight into drinking fine malts.

This was the approach I took when starting with cigars a year or so ago. I think in my intro post here I site Oliva as my favourite brand... oh how things have changed since starting to smoke more CCs! Having said that though, I still wouldn't turn my nose up at an Oliva Serie V torpedo. :41:

i enjoy a glass of blended whisky once a while too, i think its important to taste a few of both NCs and CCs before one decide what he/she really want to smoke and spend long term.

don't take my skip NCs too seriously, but this is what I really see it now. coz I only have time for 1/2 cigars a week, i really have no time for the NCs to be honest.

best introduction to CCs would be the Ro boost tos.......

RyJ short churhills
Party SDN4
HdM Epi2

smoke this 3 and a few NCs of similar price and you will have a pretty good idea what you like and don't like.

Then dosh out for a EL and a Cohiba siglo IV, and you will never look back !

lol i can see we have the same interest
i mainly shoot clays , sporting and skeet
just joined a smallbore rifle club local to me but clays are my preference
i notice you have pistols as your interest if your uk based is it blackpowder?
where and what do you shoot?
along with shooting as a hobby i also run a online store

I like my sporting and skeet as well but also shoot small bore target rifle/benchrest, small bore practical (mini rifle), gallery rifle 357magnum marlin underlever, black powder pistol and a bit of action air pistol (PP1 and steel plate)

Oh and the odd cigar whilst doing it :cowboyic9:

He He He... you know it makes sense... guns available to every little scrote on the streets for a few quid but if you've got your FAC as a respectable citizen you get hounded to death... have you noticed it's never someone whose licensed & has all their certification that goes on the rampage... take the Swiss, SLR in every other home but almost zero gun crime...

yep lol
you cant even buy a replica gun anymore but anyone over 18 can buy a 150lb pull crossbow via the internet but not a gat gun thats about as powerfull as a spud gun.

What I shoot? Well currently...

I shoot sporting clay wherever I can. I shoot carbine, rifle and pistol mainly at Bisley but the odd trip to the West Country for larger bore (love the fifty cal).

I am too young to have owned self loading rifles before the Hungerford thing but I was a big pistol shooter. I did a lot of that, including some practical pistol, as a student but then they banned them. I do not miss my Beretta 92FS much but I want my Colt 1911A1 back, god I loved shooting .45ACP.

After the ban I tried practical shotgun but those guys are scarier than me!

Now that my access to fully auto stuff (and other section five stuff) has dried up in this country that is pursued when in the US.

my humidor and cigars arrived this morning from cgars ltd happy with fast delivery time.

stupidly purchased via ebay where is was £15 more expensive.
one of the cigars a grand nica had mould / bloom on the end ,
wasnt hairy like mould was more powdery white with a tinge of brown/yellow it wiped of ok apart from the end with the folds where it was between the folds,
from googleing i think it maybe was bloom , hopefully so rather than risk contaminateing my humidor that was my mid morning smoke, have to say for the price i will be buying these again, nice and mild

lol im already bidding on a nice antique cigar box /humidor to keep in the dinning room for my everyday smokes,
also reading through posts on here i liked the idea of a wall mounted display humidor for calebras and odd shapped cigars.
and already have a box under the bed that could be converted to a tupperdore to hold the box of Grand Nica Corona i have my eye on
