  • Sri Lanka and the Maldives

So guys, my parents are off on holiday to Sri Lanka and then to the Maldives and I was hoping I could get them to get me some cigars to bring back with them. I'm thinking the best place to ask them to look would be Male when they arrive in the Maldives??

Has anyone been and got a good place I could try to get them to get some and any idea on prices?

    Thank you, James

I'm afraid 'Duty free' is probably going to your best bet, as far as these two destinations are concerned.

From memory, Sri Lanka has a small selection in the airport. Though I did see the odd Cuban and N.C. for sale out and about in places like Colombo and Kandy etc, I wouldn't have felt too confident of their authenticity to purchase.
Perhaps another forum member might be able to point you towards a trusted source.

As for the Maldives, in my experience you tend to get ushered onto waiting boats/sea-planes pretty quickly.
The airport has/had a small glass cabinet with the usual suspects in place, and some of the resorts also have their own stocks for sale (No bargains I'm afraid).

Where are they flying out from?
You'll probably have better luck this end.

Heathrow I believe, or possibly Gatwick. Do they have some at airports? Never noticed before as I've only been smoking a few months and haven't been on holiday since then. Thanks Catador, you not taking part in the newest stick a stick in??

I would not touch either. Also UK duty free can be hit and miss.
