  • NC that make you go wow!

Don't get me wrong I'm in no way anti NC but I have found that it is a lot rarer to find one that makes me go wow! Infact I can only remember this happening twice, once was a RP sun grown and then last night I had the pleasure of a short story that was on a par with some of my favorite cubans! So has anyone else had the pleasure of these two and what did you think? Also be intrested to hear of any other NC that have made you go wow! Dan

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

Agree on both the RP Sungrown and the Short Story.

Would add any Padron anniversario, whether the 1926, 1964, 45th anniversary, or 80th anniversary(!).

Tried quite a few (including some of the mentioned above) and I have never had a 'wow'

...I still live in hope though

Hmmm...Senor monkeyboy must has a high standard for the "wow" factor.

I've enjoyed all of the above, with the exception of the RPSG, and agree they are mighty fine NCs. I'd add to the list the Davidoff 100th anniversary...

I know this is going to be a very controversial opinion, but of all the cigars i've tried my second favourite is actually a NC. The La Rica Robusto

Just avoid them all mate...save the pennies for Cubans

Ditto Stevie's comments. Infact I have had a couple of 'nice' ones but I have never gone out & brought another of these nice ones so I guess that's the real test in the commercial world. I have been gifted a Padron 1964 so I'll try it soon & see if I can agree with Rocket's statement. I really would like too

                      Excuse me?

Just because i've been smoking cigars for only about 9 months doesn't mean i don't have taste buds yet (as it happens, i did that taste bud test a couple weeks back and found myself to be a supertaster). In fact, if anything, the ideal taster for something is one who has never had any previous experience to bias what they taste. I mean, we wouldn't want to entrust an unbiased evaluation on a cigar snob, right?...................................

To be honest, i wouldn't rule out that the general preference towards Cubans isn't self-manufactured (A similar concept is how very few sports are really milked, when they're nothing special compared to the rest), and that perhaps the bias towards Cubans is only caused by itself (perhaps a little influence from the US because they're contraband....................A rarity is almost always overvalued). Don't get me wrong, i like far more Cubans than i do NC's, but i still feel that the scale may be tipped more than it should be. A lot of people would disagree with me, but are they sure that they haven't been influenced by the consensus?

For the taste alone, the LR Robusto would be a little further down on my list (maybe something like 10th), but the reason it's so far up overall is because the burn is better than most cigars i have tried (including Cubans), doesn't want to go out every two minutes, doesn't smell quite as bad after being put out as most other cigars, and gives no bitter side tastes whatsoever, which i have found is a rare thing. Again, don't get me wrong, i have tried a lot of other La Rica's, none of which were anything special at all, but the Robusto just seems to work.

My absolute favourite cigar by a long ways is a Partagas P2, so i must be doing something right................................

I enjoy the short stories but my first and only wow NC was the Ashton VSG Tres Mystique. Tried one last week and then ordered a box

                          Why so testy, chico?

Perhaps it's an acquired taste ...or perhaps it's the lithium found only in Puros!

I've heard lots of good things about this cigar. Might get one in my next batch.
