Thursday 16th.Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban.

Still on the Juan lopez Petite Corona this morning with a cup of Rooibos.Last night i tied a Cohiba Maduro in with the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban.
This appeared to be a fine combination as the Glenmorangie is finished in its normal bourbon casks before being transferred to a ruby port cask for the final maturation.The whisky has a deep ruby colour compared to its normal presentation, and the sweeter port finish helps to bring out the cocoa hints in the Cohiba.Non chill filtered and 46% by volume, it is definately a fine accompliment to the Maduro.

You should try the Aberlour a'bunadh cask strength. The bottle I have is from batch 20 and is 60.5%abv, so quite strong

The Aberlour 16 & 18yr old are very nice.

Ramon, thanks for the info.I have never seen the cask strength in the shops and have not been lucky enough to try the 18YO.I have noticed different bottlings while travelling to other countries, but not tried any of them out as yet.Will add these to my "Wish list".

I was lucky enough to get these from the distillery shop. I used to drive past it just about every week. Not sure if these are generally available in the shops.

Another couple that are very nice are the Longmorn 16yr old, (also from the Aberlour shop), and Johnnie Walker Gold label, which I got in Gibraltar for ?20

Ramon, you obviously know your whisky.The Longmorn is beautiful stuff and i managed to get a bottle of this from the Blair Atholl distillery shop.If you ever get the chance then try Edradour from just outside Pitlochry.The distillery is absolutely tiny (smallest allowed by HM Customs)and the tour is one of the best i have been on.

I do like most of the Islays and i probably drink more of these than any other, Lagavulin being one of my favourites.As i live in Kilmarnock (Johnnie Walker bottling plant,bonded warehouse,distribution HQ, etc) i have tried most of what is produced and i would agree that ?20 is an excellent price for the Gold, even in duty free it can be ?40 for a litre.Enjoying a cigar with the JW Blue is something everybody should try if it wasn`t for the cost of the stuff.

One of course I totally forgot to mention, the Dalmore Cigar Malt, wonderful stuff, especially with a good cigar. I must get some more.

I was just remembering the Balvenie we drank at my friends wedding near Balmoral a few years back. I bought a bottle and made the mistake of putting it in the hold luggage.

Needless to say it didn't survive the trip. The looks on the faces of the people on the bus back to the long term car park at the airport were a picture though, I'm sure they thought I was some pi**ed up oil worker, smelled great.

I replaced it and it's still my favourite, never quite the same out of Scotland though. I think it's a bit like Rose, to be drunk within 50 miles of where it's made for best effect.

nicwing, i liked your analogy in relation to whisky not being drunk away from its point of origin and you are correct in relation to The Balvenie; outstanding stuff indeed and the 15YO in particular is much underrated.

Ramon, that sounds about right.The miniature is between ?19-?21 and the best i can get it for is about ?90 for 70cl.But it is incredibly good.I have a bottle of the pre 2000 release in a presentation case waiting for a special occassion.
I did try the Dalmore Cigar malt, as one of my friends wives works there and it was nice, but i still think there are better on the market.Like everything else, we all taste things differently.

My friend Robusto came around this PM and we herf'ed for a couple of hours and cracked a couple of NCs, Perdomo Habano Corojo for myself and Robusto got into a CI Legends Yellow Label.
