      hey pandy,
well, i sat and sipped about a quarter of the bottle last night!! it's smooooooth and very balanced!!! there is a mild hint of peat, it's quite herby, i could pick up hints of orange peel!! i took ralfy's advice and put a couple of tea spoons of water in and boy does that make a difference!!! also, i don't take ice in my whisk(e)y, only a small amount of water..... the heat from holding it in your hand alters the flavour in a positive way!!! it's one of the most satisfying and complex whiskys i've tried yet.......

      recommended 100%!!!

Might have to pick up a bottle of this, sounds like a nice way to spend an evening. Although I have got about 8 single malts at the moment and don't think Mrs Pandy would be pleased with me buying another. Maybe I can sneak it past her! Cheers for the update.

I think most of the cheaper Laddies are a good bet, mid range my favourite is the peated Infinity [3], a friend of mine purchased an ?80.00 bottle of Black Art which to me tasted horrid.

            hey dave,
i'm well chuffed with the laddie 10, more so for the fact that i'm normally not a scotch drinker!!! i really don't like heavy peat tasting whisky..... i prefer the more smooth, balanced approach of irish whiskey!!! also, ?32 for a bottle of 10 year old is pretty good!!! i'd be tempted to try one or two others in the bruichladdich line (the organic sounds pretty good to me)!!!

I can see why you might like them being an irish whiskey drinker as I tend to find the laddies (or the few I've tried) a bit too sweet and toffee flavoured for my liking, similar to my reasons for not being a huge fan of Irish whiskey as well... Just a personal preference thing though, nothing wrong with them.

hey zig, not sure what irish whiskey you've been drinking, i've not come across any 'toffee flavoured'! funny, i get that from scotch, sickly sweet toffee flavoured topped off with peat (which i find nauseating)! that's why i can't stand 99% of scotch whiskys......

Senor - the toffee flavour could be caramel that some distilleries add to give a uniform colour across a number of batches. Apparently us consumers need to have the exact same product every time we try it.
Many distillieries are starting to shun caramel now though as many of us want nothing in our dram but the vital three ingredients combined.

Sweetness can also come from the cask that the whisky is stored in - many use ex sherry barrels which can give a sweeter, almost christmas cake, flavour.

.....i am familiar with that process!!! however, as far as i know, irish whiskey is pretty much free from colourings, hence their light colour!! bushmills black bush, 10 yr old, 16yr old and 21yr old get their 'sweetness' from the borboun, sherry and madeira casks used! pot stilled malt whiskeys like redbreast and green spot are pretty much just the main ingredients, same as grain whiskeys such as greenore and bushmills 1608!!
